here is the best charades template/app

Here is the best charades template/application

I had it for years now - and got it from a Korean teacher who got it from a Korean teachers' site.

Basically, it's an app which consists of a timer, question text as well as a point counter (as well as numerous sound effects).
In order to edit the questions, just edit the text file. NOTE that there is an error of sorts - one sentence in the edit file does not correspond with the preset number - so for example, game 3, line 6 leads to game 5 line 6.... you'll know what I mean.  Also, I don't recall which line has that error.

I divide students into teams - get 4 team members lined up in front of the screen, and 1 team member facing the screen with his/her back.  4 team members take turns trying to describe the word/sentence written using actions or you can also get them to give verbal hints (without saying the word) or you might also get them to take turns drawing pictures.  The 1 team member that cannot see the word/sentence has to say what it is.

It's fun and it's quick.
The buttons in the game are in Korean - shijak means start, chondap means correct, tongwa means wrong.

Aside from the single line error in the edit file, the other problem I've experienced is font size/screen limitation.  If the sentence is too long, it will not display correctly, or end up being cut off in the middle.  If someone knows how to correct these issues, that would be greatly appreciated.

Otherwise, it works and it's fun - students love it.

Wow thanks, this is really neat for a quick review or vocab check!
I checked through all the questions and I saw what you meant. Game no.2's last word goes to game no.7's last word in the text file. But it's not a biggie.
Thanks a ton for sharing this!

BTW - these days I often use it immediately after playing the elimination reading game -
I have a number of students who struggle with reading, so that game helps them to prepare - at least a bit (we first read all of the sentences together and then play it as it were meant to be played, though students don't just read sentences, they also have to translate them into Korean).

any reason it's a .rar file when it is so small?  Is it possible to upload the original format please? I can't open a .rar file without downloading some kind of program, which i hope I can avoid because I don't know what I'm doing.  The game sounds good and I'd like to check it out.

The original format is EXE and TXT - it's 2 files.  Like every email server out there, exe files cannot be posted here.

The file does need to be unrared - you can use winrar http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

The program is small in size, but once again, it really is well made - with timer/sounds. Whoever made it years ago, deserves all the credit.

I've decided to make PPT variations of this game.

Some problems - well... those who are not well versed in PPT making process may find editing this pretty time consuming, especially if they are editing it one slide at a time.
Another problem is... the checkmark and X button change points, but do not change the picture.  I haven't figured out a way of doing that (if you know a way - you can edit this game and upload it here?).  So instead, to change a pic/sentence, just press space button on the keyboard.

Finally - with all the music, videos and stuff - plain text version of this game takes 36 megs - which is obviously a lot more than the 300kb version I initially uploaded in this thread.

Anyways - here they are and again, if the PPT wiz peeps here can improve it, that would be great.

I finally had a chance to test it out in class.
It works well - and clicking on pause to change pics/sentences is not that hard, even students were able to do it with no problems whatsoever.

However, the timer.... it lacks any sort of buzzer at the end, and for whichever reason, I am having difficulty placing a buzzer sound using any other way.  So, I edited the video for the buzzer and the final 3 seconds have now been replaced with a count down - so this should work a lot better as a warning that the time is running out.

So again, here is the pic version (this time it has 2 pics instead of one, since I needed that for my lesson today - deleting the first pic should take seconds, but inserting them anew takes around 10 minutes.  So I kept it in.
