I agree with drobinson. Don't be afraid to try showing them songs they don't know! It's sharing your culture, after all ;) I have a playlist of pop songs I like and played it for a free class one time. I was pleasantly surprised to see they knew some of the songs already.
I think nearly all of my students know "Let it Go." A lot of my middle school kids pretend they're too cool for Frozen but somehow they know all the lyrics and burst into song if it comes up somehow
My middle school kids like Sam Smith and Bruno Mars. Some know Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. One class knew "Titanium" (David Guetta/Sia). Some know the Beatles.
They seemed to like "Geronimo" (Sheppard)-- the music is upbeat and the video is interesting enough. And the chorus is easy to learn!
Also, if you know of a few artists they already like, maybe try showing them some of their lesser known songs. (If ya like them)
