I'm skeptical of these studies because it seems like if they had a different result, they wouldn't get published.

Umm, .... yeah. I think that is exactly what a meta-analysis does. In part they take unpublished research and combine them into a greater N.

There are some issues with meta-analysis so in all honesty I am a little surprised no one has said anything about this (I suspect the pro CP advocates don't really understand just how research is done).

Oh, oh, this just in. CP is more effective when wearing a tin-foil hat. Crazy conspiracy Russian is correct!

You are one of those crazy conspiracy guys. Seen any UFO's lately?

The authorities have been notified of your abusive language.

Clearly your position is really, really out there.

Not really, miaco. Maybe to you perhaps..

You're telling me you've never heard of the humanist manifesto?

You didn't realize that prominent humanists have had a massive influence over education systems in the west?

You've never heard of e.g. John Dewey?

Would that be the Illuminati or Bigfoot? I need to calibrate my tin-foil hat.

Listen mate, get real and give me some research that supports your position and then we can discuss the pro's and con's of the research. So far your best shot is some conspiracy theory that does best as a sub-plot for the X-Files.

And to answer your question: No, I do not put much stock into conspiracy theories and their ilk. I am much more comfortable with peer reviewed research (even while understanding it has its own set of problems). Conspiracy theories are for the paranoid.

To support one of my contentions there is this:

Students accepted into teaching degrees have some of the lowest entrance scores across all bachelor programmes
So, yeah. The less academically gifted will struggle to control a class of 30 odd kids and will pine for the days of physical force. This is not progress.

Answer the questions, dimbulb.

Are you telling me you have no clue as to what the philsophy of "humanism" is?

That you deny "humanists" exist and that claims of their existence are all a mad conspiracy theory?

Clearly you are a product of their program, being as dumbed down as you are.

One of their aims was to eliminate parental and teacher authority. They have also eroded the family unit and other basic pillars of a functioning society. They have absolutely transformed public education over the past 60 years.

Look up the "Center for Inquiry" or the "Council for secular humanism". Google "John Dewey" or the American humanist association + education. etc.

Hey crazy conspiracy Russian guy,

point #1: I might have more than a clue. The Humanists are not ruling the world. There is no they to the philosophical movement as there is no center. The term is so broad as to be meaningless. Which type of Humanists do you think are ruling the world? Be specific otherwise you are just another conspiracy freak baying at the moon because you can't understand.

Point#2: Hang on. Don't tell which Humanist you think are ruling the world. Instead, try to stay on topic. The topic is CP and its harm to children. Why you started ranting about some conspiracy is soooo off topic that it deserved a good mocking.

Point #3: You know, if you are going to try to get under my skin by calling be names like dimbulb and dumb you might want to avoid spelling errors in your next sentence. Or maybe there is a philsophy of humanism. The philsophy??? Are they a splinter group of the sophists? Ha ha ha. Too funny.

Now come on crazy conspiracy Russian guy, get it together.

If you are feeling a little angry right now, you probably have anger issues. Issues the result of CP.

Oh, stop with the spelling/punctuation garbage. It's an Internet forum, not an academic research paper.

Oh yeah, fair enough. Just trying to point out the irony of calling me dumb while lecturing me on philosophy and mis-spelling the subject matter. Consider me scorned for picking low fruit.
