I was the OP for the original Ranting/Venting Megathread. It lasted a month or so then it got shut down over a conversation about Kim Yuna that went on too long.

Aaah-hah, I was wondering why the current Rant/Vent thread was version 2.0.

Word of advice to the mods: Taking down threads about elections has a REALLY negative connotation. People tend to equate elections with fundamental freedoms like human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc. While there are the TOS, shutting down a political thread because "it's repetitive" raises some free speech alarms. It's especially true if it seems to only affect certain candidates or countries. That makes it seem like the moderation is not impartial.

Also, just because you the moderator find the discussion boring and repetitive does not mean that other people find it boring and repetitive. You are here to facilitate our opinions and discussions, not to apply your personal preferences.

Let people talk about Donald Trump. He is the single biggest issue in the world today and people should be free to discuss him. What harm is caused by people discussing Donald Trump? If you cannot give a clear and explicit answer beyond "this topic is repetitive", then you have zero justification for taking down the thread. I would urge you to strongly consider how this reflects upon you as moderators. Remember, no one was clamoring for the thread to be taken down. Furthermore, this is an evolving story with changing circumstances and thus by its very nature is not repetitive.

If you are going to lock a thread, you need to give an explicit reason and highlight where and how the TOS were violated. And sorry, "this topic has been done to death" is not a good reason for an ongoing current event. It clearly hasn't been done to death because the nature of the conversation has already drastically changed.

Why don't the mods make an official thread for the U.S. Presidential election?

I know. Nobody insulted K-pop. Why block the thread? I understand that saying K-pop is trash will get a thread deleted, the poster warned  or banned. But that didn't happen here.

Taeyang, sweety. Take a chiill pill. Everybody (who hasn't already been warned or banned) thinks K-pop is the bees knees. It rocks. It's awesome and under-appreciated globally. It will conquer the world soon.

Again, no need to lock this thread. K-pop's awesomeness was not in question. It's influence on America is "huuuuge".

Two things you cannot bad mouth on this site: K-Pop and South Africa  :police:

In fairness, a country that has 500,000 cases of rape a year, and where 18.5% of the adult population has HIV/AIDS needs all the help it can get. But why can't we bad mouth K-pop and South Africa? I'm genuinely curious.

And a country where Donald Trump is a serious contender for presidency doesn't need any help at all

Well yeah. I'd rather have Trump as the president of my country than get raped and have AIDS. I don't really want of any of those things though, and the point is that there is no reason not to discuss them when there is a God gosh darned board for ""Open" Discussions"
First they came for those who wanted more than 120 characters, but I did not speak out, because I did not want more tha

i once had a thread i made based on a news story locked by the mod gagevt because someone posted another news story that refuted some of the information in the original. gagevt just didn't like the contents of the original news article i posted, so he locked the thread claiming that "this information has been proven to be false, so I'm locking the thread".

never mind the fact that the other news article only refuted about half of what was written in the original news article.

never mind the fact that there were other things related to the news article that people were discussing.

never mind the fact that the story was a breaking story and was busy evolving as more information was found and more developments happened. let's just shut down the thread because i'm a mod and i don't like it!

the mods on here really do abuse their power. they use it to selectively target people with warnings who say things they don't like, while doing nothing about other people who blatantly and consistently troll.

the amount of threads that have been locked on here simply because mods don't like the thread is too high as well.
