This game is simple but there is some prep involved to be sure.
You'll need Numbered cards and red cards. The numbered cards are provided in the attached Document. For the red cards get some red construction paper. You'll want to laminate about 7 pieces of red construction paper and cut each one into about 6 equalish segments. Also laminate the Numbered cards.
Scatter the red cards all about the floor and then distribute the numbered cards among the red cards. This is your "playing field." The students will get into pairs. One student is responsible for giving directions. The other students will be blindfolded. The object of the game is for the speaking student to direct the blindfolded student to step on the numbers in order without touching a red card. Each team is timed. Stepping on a red card is a +2 second penalty for the team.
I normally have small strips of scrap paper cut up so when each team is done i can record their time and give it to them. I also keep a running record of times at the desk so i can just call out the lowest time when the class is over instead of having all the students bring their slips up. It's more efficient. Using only numbers 1-7 takes, on average, about 5 minutes per group to get through. Low end 4 high end 6. Freak incidents have gotten them as little as 3:30 or as long as 8 minutes. There is not enough time for everyone to go. To the teams that volunteered I gave one small piece of candy. To the team with the lowest time at the end of class i gave a small handful of candy as a prize. The whole class gets VERY into this. It's a good speaking exercise and a good listening exercise. There's a lot of noise but it's an incredibly effective tool. NOTE: If there is a microphone in class i recommend it. It's VERY hard to keep the room silent for this and it's difficult to play if the blindfolded one cant hear their partner.
Target Language (I have this all written on the board for reference during the game):
