Mass Shooting in Germany!

I guess Germany should enact stricter gun laws? Oh wait......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_legislation_in_Germany

Another senseless tragedy.

Edit: The title could be a bit better, as it's still unclear if it's 25 people shot from a gunman, or just injured.....

Yes and because of the strict gun laws he was armed with a rifle as opposed to an automatic weapon. Therefore it looks like no deaths instead of 49.

By mass shooting you mean one dead nutjob and 20 odd people who've had a whiff of teargas. I've been to parties more violent than that.

Well, it's still unclear what happened but, what's the difference between 4, 24 and 49? Is that what you tell family members. Sorry for your loss but, at least it wasn't more people?

Yea, it was the first thing that popped up in my news feed. Exaggerated, and misleading greatly. But the point still stands. Germany has strict gun laws, bad things still happen.

This is honestly the dumbest argument I have ever heard.

Did you just criticize another person's title, whereas you have an exclamation mark in  your title about a mass shooting?

OP, even Kliuchevskoi isn't touching this one.

That should tell you everything you need to know about your post.

Do some research - no one, other than the gunman got killed.

Looks like you jumped the gun on this one, my son. Guess you'll have to wait until there is a bigger casualty rate after a shooting in Europe to score cheap political points against strangers on the Internet.

Yea, jumped the gun for sure but, the point still remains. The guy, had more than ample opportunity to unleash a fury of hell. Instead barricaded himself inside and took hostages. Germany has strict gun control laws, so why do people think that by implementing stricter gun laws in the U.S. (or banning them) the mass shootings will stop???

Nothing will *stop* mass shootings, but proper regulation will certainly decrease their frequency, and hopefully also reduced the number of fatalities per incident as well.

Anyway, gun control isn't necessarily just about taking guns away or preventing people from getting their hands on them in the first place: better legislation will make it more difficult to get away with crimes involving guns (due to registration, tracking etc).

Also, I know for a fact that without gun control, Germany would have 463.5% more gun related deaths than they currently do. /s

Are you suggesting that Germany has multiple incidents?

Tell you what, when you have a real comparison between two countries, then you can use it as an example of why you think the US should just further ignore it's 3rd world problems.

Germany isn't even on the map when it comes to gun crime, this is blatantly because there isn't a gun culture, despite people jumping on what are obviously isolated incidents.

The point never remained because you're arguing against a point that was never made. The point has never been stricter gun laws = zero death and mayhem. The point has been (take note, this is what you actually want to argue against) is that stricter gun laws = less death and mayhem.

Stop arguing against straw men. We're teachers. We should be above this kind of idiocy.

When did this forum become a sewer full of disingenuous reactionaries?

It used to be really pleasant but recently it seems like every other thread is full tedious political bickering.

Some nut shot up a cinema. It's a terrible thing. Why can't you leave it at that.

Keep your political point scoring on Free Republic or Stormfront or whatever.

If you can shoot 10 rounds a minute, you will kill less people than if you can shoot 100 rounds a minute. That's because it will give MORE people MORE time to get away from the shooter. This isn't difficult to understand. Yeah, knives kill a tonne of people every year. It's still EASIER to get away from a knife wielder once he has started stabbing person/people 4 vs 49? Are you insane?
