2010-2011 6th grade Lesson 16 So long everyone!
« on: December 09, 2009, 02:57:27 PM »
I have to teach this lesson twice next week and I have nothing prepared.  I plan on only teaching "So long" once and using the other lesson to teach about Christmas.  The 6th graders have requested to learn the song "Last Christmas".  I'm going to make them draw pictures or decorate the words for this song and then make a slideshow out of it.

But I'm still stuck on how to teach congratulating, leave-taking, and well-wishing.  Anybody have something?  I would create something, but I have a 5-day orientation starting tomorrow.

My kids HATED this lesson. It's pretty thin on content and they're like, "WHATEVER ITS THE END OF THE YEAR DUDE". I've uploaded a Laser, Heart, Bomb game I used with them and a Board Game I used, also. They're more or less exactly the same :) Also included is a little worksheet that can take up 10 or 15.

Also, Flying Words/Make A Sentence game. That usually goes over okay.

I made a BAAM game from ddeubel's template onesnips.  The kids really liked it, although I couldnt figure out to move the "Baam" slides so they were kinda bunched together.  If you use it, I would recommend trying to space them out.

Thanks, I'm using it tomorrow because this last chapter is absolutely dreadful.  To move the Baam slides around, you have to switch the hyperlinks around.

Example, Number 14 leads to a Baam.  Right click, go to Edit Hyperlink.  You'll see Hyperlink to:  Slide 4.  Click on the drop down menu and then click on Slide...  Now you can link it to any other slide.  Next, to link the unused Baam slide repeat the previous process with a new number such as 7.

Hope that helps.

I made a short slideshow of different pictures where the kids have to say the right phrase:   congratulations, so long, goodbye, or goodluck.

At the end I threw on some word scrambles for filler ;)

Good old Cliff Richard and Congratulations!!!! Still probably better than the song in the textbook! You can turn on and off the subtitles with the captions button too!

Another post recommended having students turning in Dialogues to turn into Xtranormal videos.

I'm thinking I'll use the following PPT to introduce the concept of Yearbooks and the tradition of writing a message to your friends. Ss can then write their own message and the best/most creative ones can be turned into an Xtranormal video to be viewed at the next class -- REALLY, really hoping this gives time some sort of motivation to stay engaged in learning just a tad bit longer.

Also, came across this graduation ditty which may or may not intrigue a few students to kill some time  :)

I am struggling to come up with game ideas for this lesson but here's an easy game I put together using the donut template that someone else posted on here.

A board game that I made, probably use for period 2.  If pretty self explanatory.  If you land on a picture you should the corresponding word (ie. congratulations, good luck etc) if you land on take a card then you should answer the question on one of the cards.  If you land on Bart move down the arrow, land on a ladder move up.

Thanks, camoore56, for the Donut Game that was posted here originally! I just made the photos "Christmassy", and fixed the Korean somewhat.
