Zombie Dice
« on: July 26, 2016, 10:39:26 AM »
A simple game to make that the kids seem to enjoy.  It doesn't really have a big English component - even though you could add dialogues in if you want - I mostly made it as a time filler for camp - just for fun.

Zombie Dice rules are easily found on the net - or you can look here : http://www.sjgames.com/dice/zombiedice/img/ZDRules_English.pdf

Basic principle:   Roll 3 dice at a time.  You want to eat (roll) 13 brains before your opponents (the competing zombies) do. You can stop rolling anytime and take the brains you have and add them to your total.  But if you roll 3 shot gun blasts your turn is over and you score no brains this time.   Take turns until you have a winner (best zombie).  Read full instructions for complete rules.

You'll need 13 dice (die? I have a feeling the convention changed).  3 red, 4 yellow, 6 green.  The template has 24 sets of each colour on a page (note each colour is a little different).  Print (in colour if possible. If not, use coloured dice.) Cut and stick to the dice and away you go.   I'm using a paper glue stick.  I tried sticky tape, and it kind of works, but I think the glue looks neater.  Not sure how long they will last - but should get through camp.   It's a fiddly job, but it's possible to get a set done in under an hour if you have the patience and concentration.  There is probably a better and nicer way to make the dice - but this is my method, partly because we had dice coming out of our ears so I re-purposed them.

Enjoy

Added: A very simple ppt to instruct the basic game play- but really it's just as easy to demonstrate.  Note also, don't let the kids choose the dice, they should pick them out blindly.

Nice!! I dig the score sheet. Wish I'd thought of that-- just had my kids use whiteboards. I really recommend this game-- my students (middle, all 3 levels) loved it!

Now, for those of us who don't have extra dice laying around, here are some other methods:

1. Find small wooden blocks and use a sharpie to draw on the brains/footprints/shotgun blasts. Then stain the blocks using watered down [acrylic] paint to be the different colors.

2. Cut up colored erasers into blocks and use a sharpie to draw on the brains/footprints/shotgun blasts.

3. This is what I did because I couldn't find wooden blocks or goodly sized colored erasers in time. I printed out a basic die template (I fit 4 onto one sheet of paper). Then I cut out the templates and glued them to colored paper (for strength and color). Then I cut them out again and used stamps I had made from erasers to make the pictures (stamping on the colored side). I ended up using hot glue because it was easier than my other options. There also wasn't any red paper so I used pink instead :P

And it was your post in another thread mentioning making zombie dice that made me think of doing this.  I do have the advantage of having heaps of extra dice - but yours look pretty nifty.  I like the stamp out of an eraser idea.  I'm trying out this game tomorrow - I have high hopes they will like it.
