Got this idea from a friend of mine, and it turned out to be a big hit with my kids. I used it for elementary, but she played it with her Francophone high school students in Canada, and said it went over really well with them, too. So good for a variety of age groups.
I threw together the attached PPT because my kids are young and low level, and I think it made the whole game much easier for them to follow. That being said, you could also do it without any PPT, and just wing it. Game requires basically no prep, so it's good as a fallback when technology (or work ethic ...) fails you.
Game works like this:
- split the kids into groups of 4-6 students
- you give the kids a superlative word (ex: biggest, shortest, fastest), and they pick one student in their group to compete
- once the competing students have come to the front, you reveal what object or action the superlative applies to (ex: tallest ... thumb; shortest ... pencil, highest jumper etc).
- the student who has the biggest/tallest/shortest/fastest/etc. wins a point for their team.
- and that's it!
*Game is really hilarious when you throw in some unexpected things (fastest crab-walker was a big hit with my kids).*
Have Fun!
