Should Vs Shouldn't

Here's how I structured the lesson:

1. Introduce should Vs shouldn't..... give an example such as "I'm sick what should I do?"

2. Introduce slide that shows how to ask for advice... read and repeat and then select individuals to read sentence by sentence again.

3. Introduce how to offer help.... Why not... If I were you.... You should etc etc

4. Show example sentence..... Im hot. What should I do? Students must then give sentences to solve the problem. (best to go back a slide to show the YOU SHOULD...IF I WERE YOU etc) Repeat for what shouldn't I do? Then reveal your answers and read together.

6. Repeat for next 2 example sentences.

7. Split into teams of 4 or 5 then students must create sentences for the pictures. 1 sentence for SHOULD and one for SHOULDN'T. Give teams points for each reasonable sentence and a BONUS point for the most creative answer.

WINNING TEAM RECEIVED A BAG OF SUNKIST CANDY!!!

This class worked really well this week. I had to help a couple of the lowest level groups, but most classes had really good fun making funny sentences for the pictures.

Good luck and I hope that this lesson get's you through another day!!!!

Benyah81, someone with the username "bazhabit" uploaded it to epikforum.org. I was one of the moderators there and, as epikforum.org faced closure, I transferred the lessons here and acknowledged the original posters.
Please let me know if "bazhabit" has plagarized your powerpoint, or if you'd prefer it not to be here, and I'll delete the post.

Works great with my 2nd year high schoolers. I changed a few of the pictures but the lesson worked well with a few modifications. Thanks for sharing!

Great lesson!  I made a worksheet to go along with the powerpoint - I find it's a good way to keep my students on task!

Thanks for this lesson idea.  I just thought I'd share the direction I went with it.

I ended up turning it into a dialogue class.  I did a quick intro on how to ask for suggestions and offer suggestions.  Then, in groups of four each person had to come up with something they wanted to ask their group for help with and each person in the group had to offer a suggestion for each question.  Then I had them share it as a dialogue with the class, or what is more often the case in my classes, I ran around and listened to each of them read their dialogues to me.  They seemed to have fun with it.  I got a lot of things like this:

I'm fall in love with her.  Can you give me some advice?
You should find another girl.  Look your face!
If I were you, I would show her my mind.
You should propose her.

...which also made it fun for me  :)
