Help: High School 3rd grade
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:03:13 PM »
Hi all.

I need some guidance. My school has requested that I give a class to the high school 3rd graders once every 2 weeks. I would love to do this but I'm not sure what to teach them, and the school hasn't given me any guidelines as to what they expect from me. The worst is that this class will be 7th class on a friday afternoon so the students will be less than enthusiastic and energetic. I want them to have some fun while learning because I know that they have to study extremely hard in preparation for the Korean SAT in November.  The students range from low level to average.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do a simple class on idioms.  They will sleep quietly throught it.  Easy class period for you.   ;D

They probably want conversation focused lessons since the third grade high school students don't have conversation classes for English.  Try playing a game like jeopardy with basic vocabulary or expressions that they should know.

Slang is a good thing to Teach.  Why not make it a movie class and have them try and understand English only movies.  You can do a project on that.  That way it's fun and they are learning.

I also have done project on the TV show Ancient Aliens and the kids loved it.
cheers
