All Girl's High School Listening Worksheets
« on: May 08, 2011, 03:29:27 PM »
Hi all...I've never posted before so I apologize if the structure of this message is confusing. I just wanted to share some of the games and activities I have found to work well amongst my classes. I teach at an all girl's high school and the level of English varies dramatically amongst my classes. I am required to teach both the listening section and the speaking section of my book. The Korean teachers spend about 3 weeks on each chapter so my coworker and I have broke down our teaching into doing one week of listening, one week of speaking, and one week of activities not related to the book. So far, this has been working well and the students know that after two weeks of "boring" lessons, they will get to do something fun and exciting. I thought I would share some of my lesson plans from each of the three areas that I have outlined above. I realize that these lesson plans may not be applicable for some of you since some of my activities are derived solely from the content of my books, however, it may give you some new ideas.

In regards to teaching the listening section of my book (High School English - such an original book name), I have found that making worksheets to accompany the material works best with the students. It gives them something to do while they listen to the entertaining content and I always make sure to throw in some games and puzzles. I have attached some of these worksheets so that you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. Again, these worksheets were made to fit the content of my book so you would most likely have to edit them if you wish to use them.

The first attachment corresponds to Unit 2 (The Upside Down Mice) in my first year students books.
The second corresponds to Unit 1 (A Friend is a Present You Give Yourself)  in my second year students books.

Great first post.

You’re in a similar position as me for grade 1 in that I have the same book (though a different edition it seems as my chapter one was “To Be Smart”).

I’m just supposed to do the listening and speaking parts (and I’m allowed to do the yellow part of the Activities book).

I am up to unit 4 now (Think different, work together) and I have to admit your worksheets look more colourful than mine.

I’m not sure what useful stuff I can pass on as I have tried a lot of different things and techniques. I have smaller classes (less than 20) so pretty much everything works but that’s not necessarily because it’s good material.
Have attached the script for the exercises in unit 4. I use it for the base for a lot of activities (gap fill listening, role plays etc) so hopefully that saves someone some time in writing it all out.

all girl's high school

Nooooooooooo! It's taken me five years to get everyone at my school to move the apostrophe. I don't need a native speaker moving it to wrong side of the S.

BTW, I see we use the same textbooks, but wasn't lesson 1 already covered a long time ago?

Wow..you must really not like me! Yes, lesson 1 was covered quite some time ago but I was just trying to get some of my materials out in the open. I'm working on posting my current materials but things are taking an extra long time to upload.
Where is it that you teach? Have you had success using these books?

I'll see what I have saved for Happy Life with a Cool Job and Science behind Sci-fi Movies (at least they didn't write SF Movies).
