Rechargeable batteries
« on: May 18, 2011, 10:44:40 pm »
I looking to purchase a charger and some rechargeable batteries, since my camera has a seemingly insatiable appetite for normal cells.  Any recommendations on places to look in Seoul or the surrounding area?  Websites?

Buy Sanyo Eneloops.  They are NiMH cells.  They are reliable and well-made, and their key feature is a very low self-discharge rate.  This means that you can store them in a charged state and they remain charged for months, unlike regular rechargeables which discharge in a few weeks even just sitting in a drawer.

You can get Eneloops most reasonably sized stores.  I bought some at http://lanstore.co.kr/ (they have a shop in iPark Mall in Yongsan and other places).

I got some for my Xbox and got the sony rechargables.  Got them at hi Mart.  Not sure if this helps but most places have them.  HI mart, Emart and what not.

Alcava (알가바) is the normal Korean brand. They cost about the same as regular batteries. Can't testify too extensively about quality, but a clock that I put one in is still ticking 3 months later.

Another vote for the eneloops. They have much lower discharge rates over standard rechargeables. I bought a pack from Costco for about 30,000 won and it came with the charger, 4 AA, and 2 AAA batteries. The batteries also come in different color sets - blue, green, and white so you won't accidentally mismatch them.

edit: actually it was 6 AA and 4 AAA batteries.
