korean website to buy English board games?
« on: June 23, 2011, 03:54:46 pm »
Hi guys,

My school said that they have a generous budget for the English department at my M.S. and I could order some board games for the students. Is there a good Korean website where I can make my selection of board games?

I know someone posted it here before but I can't seem to find that post.

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure about websites but there is an English Plus store in Daejoen that has a whole host of English games. I think they are in most of the Metropolitan cities if you can get to one.

All the best.

I made my own board game that can be easily adapted to fit any subject/field.
I suggest teams of 6 players.
Make about 60 cards with your own questions/answers.  Of that make 7 Bomb cards and 7 Steal cards.
You will need board counters and dice - these you can make or buy.

Change Direction spaces:  Students take turns going ABCD.  When they land on change direction, they change direction in the order of the players.  Thus playing DCBA.

The winner can be determined by either.  I did it that way so that short time for the game can be determined by who reaches the Finish/End space.  Other classes where I have a lot of time winner are determined by who has the most points.  So they must go round and round the board recycling the question cards if they need to until I say time is up.

Relax spaces:  they do nothing.  No points.  No cards.  Just relax.

There's this, I think it's in Changwon, but it's all in Korean so you'll have to have your CT translate

http://www.koreaboardgames.com/ that's the website of a store that is in Changwon, I believe. You'll have to get your co to translate as it's all in Korean.

Alternately you can also look on GMarket. I bought Apples to Apples off of it.

I've heard of a website called "whatthebook.com" or something like that. Anyone ever used them?

What the Book? is an awesome bookstore!  I haven't ordered from their online store yet, but I've visited their store in the Itaewon area of Seoul at least 3 times (use exit 1 @ Itaewon station, walk straight out of the exit, it's on the second floor on your right after a few blocks).

They don't, however, have board games.  But they're great for books! :D  Kyobo bookstores are good, and Bandi and Lunis bookstore in COEX mall (Samsung Station on line 2 subway) has a pretty good English board game selection.  You asked for websites though... :(  Sorry... Maybe Gmarket?

These are awesome but super expensive! Taboo cost me the equivalent of maybe 10,000won back in my home country and it actually might be cheaper to just have my copy shipped over here than to buy one on the websites, which are listing for 50,000+ won. Yikes.
