I'm about to start a new conversation class with about 30 first grade kids and have almost no clue as to where to begin.
Any ideas on either how to make a plan for the whole semester or good books/materials I could use will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for sharing, hockeyguard! I'm new to teaching and my school does not have an established curriculum OR a textbook, so I'm struggling with where to start - I'll definitely pull some ideas from that blog.
Cheers

I would follow the curriculum, and have them practice with groups. Encourage speaking, but make sure the class is under control.

Well it all depends on the students' level. I would try to follow the curriculum but a good resource for high level students to start conversations is
http://www.BreakingNewsEnglish.ocm
or just type breaking news English in Google browser It is also good for teaching teachers.
Hope it helps,

Many times speaking classes (such as my own) at the high school level have little to no curriculum. It is our job to pull any kind of content from our heads from what we know and study about english. Then we have to compile it in a fluid and educational manner that is condusive to different learning styles.
