Creative speaking tips?
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:48:16 AM »
I find formal speaking lessons really easy to plan, but anyone got any tips for creative speaking lessons? Thanks in advance!

Could you explain what you mean by "creative speaking lessons"? By creative do you mean less-scripted, less linear...???

Games or topics your students are interested in are the best. Depending on the group, music and celebrities are a big winner. Playing games such as guess the star or the sport wit their backs against the picture and getting others to come up with clues are good ones to do I have found.

If you call them out individually, you will not get an answer.

Hey! something that works for me is: I get the kids to do a worksheet about the key vocab, where they have to do some original work, write some original sentences, then ask them to share with the class. It's not spontaneous talking, but we all know how petrified koreans can be about making mistakes. This way, they are saying their own sentences with confidence. You can do the same thing with a dialogue.

Yep, I meant that and also more conversational, relaxed or imaginative lessons rather than formal/clinical language like ordering food/telephone convos/booking a holiday etc!

Yes! Thank-you, games like that are great. I tried similar one where four people each say one word to form a reply to a question. It worked quite well last week, will try some out in future! Thanks again.
