Morning Class
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:46:27 pm »
Having some trouble figuring out what to do with my morning class high school 1st graders. They're all super tired in the morning. The only thing that seems to work in word-searches, but I'd like to do something a little more stimulating. Any thoughts?

Can you give a little more information on what this morning class is? Do you just mean the first period of the day? Or is it a short "homeroom" or pre-schedule class? In any case, conversation should always be the focus, even if it's just getting them to practice one key sentence.

Hi,
If you mean just first period I just played typhoon with my class and by the end of it they were all excited and bright eyed. Typhoon is basically a jeopardy type game done over power point. I used it for my Natural disaster lesson but you can use it for other subjects. If you do a search you'll find the template. I was really impressed by it because half the class was literally asleep and by the end they were all awake and talkative. Basically, make them competitive against each other in a fun way and you're almost guaranteed a fun class. I teach all boys 1st grade high school btw.
Good luck!!
