High School Song Lesson - Lady Gaga Born This Way
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:20:36 pm »
The original idea came from this thread : http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,6166.0.html

Basically I wanted to add a little more content to the lesson idea, with some speaking topics, so I added some slides about the song's "message" and some class discussion about bullying.

I will be teaching this lesson tomorrow (Friday, October 6th) for the first time, and then I'll make some comments and hopefully, if I have time, finalize a lesson plan for it. For now, I'm just going to follow the slides and use the handouts to guide my lesson and get a feel for it. I'll also add an edited version tomorrow with (hopefully) some Korean translation for the key vocab.

My students always bring up Lady Gaga in class whenever celebs come up, so I'm expecting them to enjoy this lesson. Also we just finished exams this week so I'm sure something light like this will be appreciated.

Thanks, shhowse.

Your added materials look great. I'm hoping to use them next week.

So here are the new, update versions of everything, including answers to the worksheets, and lots of suggestions. I wrote my explanation right into the ppt, in that white box under each slide, and also on the answer page to the handout.

I used until slide 15 in the ppt.

I also discovered that leading the class in discussion was much better than giving the groups 5 minutes to talk on their own and answer the questions (basically it didn't happen!).

Please review the content of this lesson carecully, especially the lady gaga video, to decide if your kids can handle it or not. My classes are all girls and the discussion of the topics went pretty well (besides pretty short basic answers) but they weren't too offended by the material. I'm not sure about mixed classes.

If anyone is wondering, most of the information about the song and bullying came from Wikipedia and was slightly altered to fit the students' language ability.
