Games to play with large low level boys class
« on: October 13, 2011, 10:09:03 am »
I have 20 minutes or so to fill next week and would like to play a game/games with them but the behaviour of the class is very poor and there's 34 of them. Does anyone have any recommendations of games tried and tested on a class such as this?

I have a class like this. It is as if the school managed to put every 1st grader with adhd into one classroom. For these classes I like to do simple games like a speed quiz: divide the class into teams and have one boy guess what picture is on the screen while his teammates shout hints.

I also, like grammar ball, which is basically stringing together scrambled phrases or grammar parts to make an English sentence. The students write them on a piece of paper. The first few teams that finish get a chance to crumple the paper into a ball and shoot it into the waste basket.

One last game is to put a  picture on the board and divide the class into pairs. One boy describes the image and the other one draws without looking at the screen. It is a good way for them to practice using prepositions and adjectives.

I find these games get the class into an atmosphere of managed chaos and they learn a little without realizing it. I hope that helps.
