Looking for a Short Play (Low Level High School Students)
« on: December 22, 2011, 02:18:48 pm »
Hi!  I'm thinking I might want my small winter camp class to rehearse and perform a short play during winter camp.  It's going to be a mix  of   11 first and second graders and although they are high  level for their grade and the school (That's not saying much) , they are basically low level.    The summer camp students performed one and it seemed like a valuable activity.  I want to do  it again.   Any recommendations?  Where can I find short plays online?

I'm also interested in improv games that low-level students could handle.

Thanks!

try plays by david ives. there are lots of short scenes of similar themes within one play, so you can divide them. idk how to get it online, but i'm sure you can order from amazon or what the book.

Why not help them write their own plays?  I've participated in several twenty-four-hour play festivals in which the plays are written between midnight and six in the morning, the actors and director rehearse all day, and then the plays are performed at night.  A week-long camp seems like a great opportunity to practice something like that.

If you'd really like to use existing plays then I recommend acquiring a play collection by Christopher Durang.  His work is very funny and quite simple.
