Would You Rather
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:50:14 AM »
I made this simple "Would You Rather..." lesson to do with my after school class.  It's quite simple, but it worked quite well!  Based on my students reactions at some points, I don't think they had ever done anything similar.  They would sometimes say "Teacher, why?" or "I choose neither."  But I told them that it's part of the fun, and they have to choose.  Their choices spurred good conversations as I had them explain why they chose that.

YES A VERY SIMPLE LESSON PLAN BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE VERY EFFECTIVE. IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO BRING IN A EASY(SIMPLE) LESSON DURING A WEEK OF HEAVY LECTURING. THIS LESSON PLAN IS A GOOD 'BREATHER' FOR STUDENTS. I AM VERY GLAD I CAME ACROSS IT. THANKS=)

I made a PPT for a brief "Would You Rather" activity recently as well.  It's got 12 paired choices, fully illustrated for the slideshow.  You can make this activity a little longer by telling students to explain their answers as well as possible in English (2-4 minutes per slide this way).  I'm calling it a game, though maybe an extended icebreaker is more accurate.

First, students have to state a preference, then their partner asks them "Why?" and they trade roles before the teacher switches to the next slide.  Students then find a new partner.  This works especially well in two long rows, seated or standing, so students can find their new partner quickly.

I've done the activity in a group of 24 (some adults I volunteer with) and a group of 4 (a low/mid level after school class).  It works much better with more students...!  Hoping to include this as part of my post-midterm lesson for worn out HS students to have something more fun than book work.

(Edit: updated to add the 11th and 12th choice slides)
