Creat your own country
« on: February 27, 2012, 03:42:46 pm »
Hello all.

Here is a lesson idea for anyone who has after school classes with high level kids at high school. I used it originally for a high school camp. Worked well, the kids had fun with it.

This is just the basic idea - you might want to expand on certain sections. For example, when talking about Laws/Rules, I first made this an activity about Korea, where students would write down three pros/cons about their own country, share them with the class, and decide together on three things they would like to change.

Anyway, whatever works for you. Hope this is of some inspiration :-)

Excellent idea.  I'm sure you won't mind if I commandeer your Ppt since you posted on here.  I'm excited about using this.  The way I have it planned, that is, if it goes according to plan, this activity should take up two days.  It's creative and motivates them to elicit their vocabulary repertoire.  Thanks a bunch.  I'm a new teacher.  Sooner or later I hope to create my own ideas.

I really like this idea. If there were enough time/classes, it might be cool to have the students "travel" to each others' countries.

They could make their own passports from their made-up country and "travel" to the other countries. Making passports requires a lot of traveling vocabulary that is essential to their learning.

Reload the page, I have found that sometimes I need to reload the page for it to download.  I don't know why, but I think it has to do with all of the anti-virus programs running on your computer at school.
