I put together a clas about the concept of 'fail' pop culture refrence i guess.   It's not actually complete, but I put it through a test run with one of my classes (one of the more advanced ones)  I wouldn't say its an amazing lesson plan, but with exams coming up I figured something simple and entertaining could distract them into learning a little about american culture/slang and actually get them to talk after the videos I showed.   (a note for the skate one i skipped 1:20-2:00 because i didnt feel that seeing broken arms would be very entertaining.)     

Again sorry for it not being 100% complete I just wanted to upload something to at least give ideas out since i've taken a bunch from here already.

And to watch the videos, i actually opened them all up outside the PPT program in a browser window so they were already loaded when it came time to watch them in class.

You beat me to it!  i've been dieing to make a lesson plan about "Fail".  I usually go to Failblog.org before most classes and show them a video or some pictures.  They don't understand the pictures, but they always ask me questions about them and want to know why they are funny.  Anyways, good work!  I'll try to whip one up too and see what ya'll think.

I think the internet sensation of "fail" is hilarious... but... it's improper English... are you teaching that it should all say "failure?"

Of course we're here to teach culture... you say that like the idea is something unfathomable to me, which is slightly insulting.

I was posing the question that, if you want to teach slang, maybe it's not a great idea to start with a bit of slang which is solely defined and whose punch line is improper grammar. Have you taught them "I can haz chezburger" yet?

Lately I've started opening classes with failblog pictures.  Typically this results in me explaining why the picture's funny for several minutes, which is cool because it kills some time but if you have to explain why a joke is funny... it isn't funny.  I've shown a lot of hi-larious pictures but my students never laugh, not even at physical comedy.

I haven't tried videos yet because of my computer situation but I'll work it out and give them a shot.  In my fantasy I show a fail, we all laugh and then we talk about the mistakes that were made.  Hasn't happened yet.

I've done this too but I use things the kids are used to. I hope this doesn't get me in trouble... its just the name of the blog. fuckyeahkpopmacros.tumblr.org they have a lot of #fail and #epikfail tags using kpop stars that the students know. maybe they'll understand why its funny when its their own stars "fail"ing. LOL
