Hello all-
I thought of this lesson and my students caught on quick and it's rather painless and keeps them involved. For the record, I work at a mid-high level all boys high school.
The main focus of the lesson is with adjectives and introducing themselves. First, explain and review adjectives on the board. Then make an anagram with your name and use adjectives to describe yourself. For example:
Smart
Adventurous
Realistic
Awesome
Hopeful
I had my co-teacher give her name as an example as well. You can do more examples of famous people they might know. The intro and presentation takes about 10 minutes depending on the level of your students.
Next, hand out a small piece of paper or have them use their notebooks. They can use the romanized version of their Korean name or their English name if they have one. Give them about 10 minutes to work on it. You'll probably have some difficulty with adjectives starting with 'o', 'u', 'y', and 'j'. Be prepared!
Next, tell the students they must introduce themselves to the class. I used the prompt of:
"My name is ______. I am ___, ____, and _____."
Every student had to stand up in the beginning and when they introduced their self they could sit down. That part takes about 10 minutes.
If you co-teacher needs introduction/rule time this is perfect or you can supplement with a PPT about yourself. Hope this helps some of you out there. It gets the kids thinking, interaction, talking and keeps them awake. Good luck!
