Practicing English Using Video
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:53:55 am »
Here is a good lesson using a video from you tube.  I got this idea from Larry Ferlazzo's bog post The Best Popular Movies/TV Shows For ESL/EFL.  Its a great blog with some great tools/ideas.  I  read that this this Mr. Bean video would work well with ELL's, so I decided to try it, however ANY video can be used.

I watched the video before class, and picked good times to stop the video where questions could be asked.  I wrote the times down, so I knew when to stop it and allow time for discussion.

During class, I reviewed the instructions, and informed the students that they would be

1)Working in pairs, and that one student would be listening, and one student would be watching.  (I allowed them to decide and recommended that the student that could write the best, take the listening duty, and vice versa)
2)The student watching would try to explain the scene.
3)The pair would review the question, and decide on an answer.
4) The student listening would then write down the answer on the sheet provided.

I also provided a word bank of key words, or words that they might have troubles with.  I helped the students fill this out as a class before the video started.

My only concern would be that the video would not be exciting enough, but ill try a different one next time:)

Enjoy
