Pen-pals Search!!!
« on: April 10, 2012, 12:07:05 pm »
I am trying to find a class/ group if pen-pals for my class of Korean High School Freshmen.

How can I do this? I just entertained the idea, and my co-worker and I really liked it.

LoL. Now, I just need to figure out how to do it!!!

Please help me! This would be a really awesome opportunity for me, my co-worker AND ESPECIALLY 30+ Korean students who rarely get to talk to foreigners... especially ones near their own age.

Specifically, I am looking for cross-cultural, but I can also except suggestions for students from distant Korean schools.

THANK YOU FOR READING!!

You could try and organize it with the admins of one of the big sites like Penpalworld perhaps.

Or...

I'm from Joplin Missouri, where that tornado in May tore our city apart, high school included. I would love the opportunity to go to the teachers and see if one of their classes would be interested in doing a penpal project with your students.

Hey! Well, thank you for reading this. I couldn't expect to see a US based teacher on here. In any case, I would be interested to to do that. If you could, check with your admin and see what they think!

I am very sorry that you guys experienced that. I am from North Georgia. So, I have experienced parts of tornadoes and have had friends who have had hurricane damage, BUT nothing THAT severe.

I would be interested to hear some stories some time. And, I would certainly be interested to work with you.

I am in Teogyewon, South Korea... We are about 1 hour east of Seoul. This area is somewhat low-income.. so, the students rarely meet foreigners.

Thanks for your response and take care!!!

I'm only here until I find a position in South Korea, but I sub with the local high school. It would be a pleasure, I'll hit them up tomorrow or the following day and let you know what I can figure out.

Don't let another opportunity pass you by, I just think it is such a unique chance for the students here, I had to give it a shot. Glad to see you were receptive. A lot of the sterotypes of the U.S. midwest exist for a reason, I think it would be good for the kids to get to meet some foreigners also.

So you are looking for high-school freshman? That's 9th grade here, so... ages 14-15?

I do a penpal project with my students in all my extra classes and I just use my friends.  So, if you can't find a group of high school students, maybe go with your friends??

The students really enjoy talking to people you know and are very curious about how you know them.  I would really encourage the penpal project.  Almost all of my students love it and I have seen many of students change their attitude about English because of it.

Wow, it is great to hear that they change their attitude about English, attitude is so important after all.

I contacted the high school administration today and they are working out the details, talking to instructors, etc. They seemed overly positive to the idea, but nothing concrete yet. I should have something more definitive for you before Friday.

Hey! So, please let me know the situation ASAP.. please! :)

I need to set up an exchange class within the next few days. My co-teacher has been asking about it. If you can't in the next few days, then that is okay. I understand, but it would be nice to work with you.

If for some reason it might take a while, then I might could set up another class for you if you want to later!

Well, take care and let me know if you want any help or advice for coming to South Korea.. or have you taught here before?

According to the school it should be finalized tomorrow, or Monday at the latest. I'm sorry it is taking so long.
