Hello,
I am teaching this class this week and haven't yet perfected it, but, I would like to share it with you all anyways. Please, if you have any feedback, then, let me know.
Its a class about how to ask and answer questions about what one likes to do for fun. I start the class by reviewing the last class (descriptive words) and then elicit some of the fun things the students like to do. I write these on the whiteboard. Then, I drill the sentences:
- What do you like to do for fun?
- What are you into?
- What do you enjoy doing?
I drill the students in full sentences, e.g. "I like soccer", "I am into soccer", "I enjoy soccer". I don't do all three for every slide (that would be a lot). Instead, I ask if anybody likes to do the activity on the slide and then drill it. If nobody likes it, I don't bother =P. (see footnote 1)
After the drilling, I move to the first practice, a BINGO worksheet. I hand out the sheets and tell the students to stand and mingle. I don't stop when someone gets bingo, I just let them practice. It seems to get them talking. When this is done, I ask a few students to share their results with the class.
Next practice, I put on the practice slide (actually this was already up during the BINGO session) and ask the students to practice in pairs for 5 minutes. I roam the room and make sure they practice a bit; I converse with them a bit as well. Then, I grab two students from each group and tell them to present in front of the class. I have made this really fun by putting a pink wig on one student and glasses with the big nose on the other. This gets the class interested and the students up front still practice speaking.
So far, the class has been ending 5 minutes early, so I just reward them with a video or send them off. It is a fun class, and with all the standing and mingling, it seems productive so far.
footnote 1: I run my class sort of dynamically, so, I put a lot of content on my ppt to choose from. The presentation stage can be much shorter for you.
