(대교 Daegyo) Grade 5, Lesson 13 - "She Looks Happy"
« on: October 05, 2012, 09:07:49 AM »
My apologies if this is in the wrong area of Waygook as I have never attempted a post before. I made this Spongebob board game for my fifth graders, as well as a prezi using my own personal pictures from travelling, and a short PPT for the new vocabulary. Please reformat or fix anything you would like and re-post: I am truly not an artist when it comes to making presentations!

I think this might work to link to the prezi: http://prezi.com/nqvcovor1rcs/she-looks-happy-5th-grade-materials-lesson-13/

I made an Omok game for period 3 (reading skills practice). Students will already know how to play the game in Korean, but basically it's a giant tic-tac-toe board where they must mark five spaces in a row and keep their partner from doing the same. In order to claim a space, they must say the expression or do the action displayed in the square. Simple, fun, and gets them reading and speaking :)

I've uploaded a .jpg if you want to print straight from that, and the .ppt file if you want to do some editing. Enjoy!

A really simple matching cards game I used for the first unit in this chapter.

I chose to let them pick either 'he' or 'she' in this activity. It was good practice for using the correct pronoun in their responses. (My students always mix them up ;))

Use the 'feelings' category. It has more words for students to choose from than those in the textbook. You can follow it up with a game from the same site (Crazy Cups or Speed work well).

here is a into ppt... It took me a while to put together, but it turned out pretty good...(I made it specifically out of the book... not a blending of old ppt's)

Here's a simple warm-up activity- the students look at the various faces and discuss their emotions/ appearances using "He/ she looks...".  Not all of them are obvious.

Another activity I'm trying out is to get all students to draw a face (we have whiteboards which come in handy, but paper would be fine).  In turn, they then come to the front of the class and put their face over their own, like a mask.  The class then asks the student:  "Aren't you sick/ angry/ tired... etc?" until the student can answer "yes".

Here are some lesson materials for this chapter.  I was given the games by another teacher who made them so credit to her for that, and l used some of the intro PPT's (plus added to them) from this thread and the Spongebob Board Game to make the general lesson PPT.

Hope they help!
:D

Here is a Bingo game I made. There are four different game boards enclosed in the document. My projector bulb went out last week, so we did a lot of printable stuff.

Writing game- 'Find the Mistake' ppt. game.

Student's work in pairs or teams with whiteboards, give them x amount of time to find the mistake and re-write the sentence.

Here's a worksheet I found that gives the student the opportunity to explain and draw a certain emotion.

I also have several Sesame Street video clips which demonstrate emotions. Personally, I think "Felines" and the clip with Richard Pryor are the most applicable to this lesson.

Some pictures and photos for students to talk about -  no right or wrong answers. Use it at the start or end of a lesson.
