lesson on Stereotypes
« on: April 09, 2013, 12:23:16 PM »
I wanted to teach my high school girls about differences among people. I felt like Korean style and lifestyle was so somewhat one dimensional. So this is a lesson on stereotypes/subcultures. Its all generalization but am keen for my students to see that there is more that just Korean style and culture and that just because its different doesn't mean its wrong.

I teach my students a new slang word every week. this week is SWAG, which goes well with the Hip Hop section of the presentation. The girls had worksheets with the topic and they had to write down all the different stereotypes. They can just copy from the slides. Then after the presentation we played a game where the girls got into groups of four. Then i played some music video's and they had to guess quickest what stereotype it was and why. The winners got candy.

Hope its useful

Thanks for posting this, looks like it could be a good lesson. It would be intersting also, to have a lesson comparing Western and Korean stereotypes to show similarities and differences.
