Soccer Trivia Game
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:06:44 AM »
Here is a soccer trivia game that I played with my lower level high school students. I printed out the answer sheet and passed them out to the students. I showed a video by clicking on the link about once every four questions. I made this using Shane’s bomb game generator, and Shane’s help. All but one of the computers at my school prompted me to enable Macros when I clicked the slideshow icon in ppt. Fortunately, in that one room I was able to hook up my laptop. This is a game the students enjoyed and it filled the whole class period.

You must teach at an all boys school.     Looks great for them, but my all girls school would be bored to tears.

How'd you handle answers?  I find these types of games are generally better if all teams have an opportunity to answer so everyone is paying attention all the time.

Also, any chance we could adjust the chances of various results?  I know it's random, but if we could adjust the weighting so positive results were more likely I'd appreciate it.  I just played through myself and got waaaay more negative results than positive, and I find this can really make students upset or disinterested.

Looks fun though, thanks for the work!

32-36 have a greater chance than 37-40. You could stack all goals there. I wanted the score to mimic a soccer game score. When I played the highest score was 5.
I didn't try this in any all girl classes, but in the mixed classes the girls actually did very well because they payed attention, read the answer sheet and marked the answers that were already given.

I spent the morning making this a little nicer. I’ve learned to make everything in ppt big. Fonts should be 50-60. I was shocked that my original had fonts at 30! Also, I removed the hardest question and replaced it with a very easy one, doing that can make a huge difference in a game.

I stuck with the rest of the questions as they have a long shelf life.

I still plan to print the answer sheets and give them to the students. I wouldn’t expect many correct answers otherwise. The students that were smart enough to pay attention, even when it wasn’t their turn, checked off the answers that were already given and were much more likely to come up with a correct answer.
