Exchange of lesson ideas for EXTREMELY low lvl highschool.
« on: August 21, 2013, 12:15:29 PM »
im teaching at a new highschool so they currently only have freshman students. The trouble is that i only see them once a week and one class once a month so i cant bulid on my lesson but i still want to make it fun. So far i played alot of games but im running out of ideas. If i have to say their lvl is way below what it should be for highschoolers. They have to have mostly everything translated for them and i would place their english around second year of middleschool. I need something to fill up the time and really to make english more enjoyable to learn. I have alot of short mini activites to do in the begiinning but it would only last for around 10 mins. Which mean i have 40 mins left.

Games I played so far would be connect four, hot seat, jeporady, pictionary, sentence scramble race (Where you would make sentences cut them up and give the students to re scramble and write on the board)<-- pm if your interested in learning more about the game. If you have any ideas or ppt to share with me it would be great.

The lesson on here called the "World Quiz" has always been a hit for me no matter the level of students.

It's probably more fun with students who can only just understand the question.

I don't use the videos so it fits in 50 minutes.

I do use the work sheet though and they even like that part.

k-pop slams go down an absolute storm with my low-level high-schoolers, especially the girls. i kid you not i think i've actually had girls on the verge of fainting when Big Bang, G-Dragon, and Teen Top videos have played on the k-pop slams.

Hi I am at a rural High School and I look at a lot of middle school lessons for inspiration.  I agree with the K-pop slams.  The students go bananas.  I have also adapted some of the lessons that Vitamin-d, adventure_rider, and Leo Fuchagami have made as they are creative, colorful, and interesting for bored HS students.  I also have my lessons quite .gif heavy and utilize a lot of relevant pictures of babies, baby animals, and poop.  Yep poop.

Hope this helps.
