ZOMBIE ATTACK GAME, CONDITIONALS and HALLOWEEN classes

ZOMBIE ATTACK GAME

I did this game with my class after a grammar based lesson on "conditionals" (see below), and it was also coming up to Halloween so seemed appropriate. It went down a storm with my Grade 2 high school students! I gave the winning team positive point (school reward system) but candy would work well if not.

I gave the students a worksheet each, but just had the top two teams hand in their sheets at the end of class, so I could check they hadn't cheated. Also, make sure they write in pen not pencil! You have to hurry them along in the first part with the whole getting into teams, sentence making, and choosing their objects - try to keep that part to 20 mins total, and you should be able to just fit the game into a 50 min lesson.

I have also attached the sound clips, as these might not work otherwise. You may have to put them back in if they don't.

Here are the sounds too, just in case they don't work, and you have to put them back in.

CONDITIONALS

I have attached my lesson on conditionals as well if you want to use that as a precursor to the game. I'd recommend reading up on your conditionals, and reading through the PPT/worksheet first, and making up a few example sentences up to use in class if people get stuck. Don't let them write down the examples in the PPT, have them make their own for practice.

The third conditional was the hardest one for them. I used the Butterfly Effect movie as an example. In the movie, Ashton Kutcher goes into his past and changes something, as a result when he comes back to his present, it too has also changed.

There's a mingling exercise if you have a lot of time left, or just get them to do it for homework/extra credit/candy whatever, just go through the first 5 as examples first. There's also a link to a "Who Wants To Be a Billionaire?" quiz game at the end if you have time. I found the game was better to do in class, and the interview part worked better for homework/extra credit. Just remember to go through some of them, so they know how to answer in sentences.

This is very well crafted. I've already used a modified version of this lesson : http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,49105.msg318540.html#msg318540

in my after school class, but I've been wanting to do a follow up lesson in a sort of "choose you're own adventure" format. I've been struggling with how to pull that off well logistically in a classroom of 35, and I think modifying this will work wonderfully. Thank you so much for all your effort and thoughtfulness, and most of all for sharing!

If you don't mind i'm going to link to this topic in the thread i linked above, i think a lot of other people might find it useful as well.

Jenniferteacher this is Amazaballs!  I have my 3rd year high school students twice a week and I like to have both lessons tie together.  I made very few modifications to the conditionals worksheet.  Mostly I cut the question sheet down to the 10 easiest questions and just had the students write out their answer.  I'm at a low level academic HS so they still struggled for the most part.  For the teaching/review first page we made up example sentences together so everyone would be on the same page.  These adjustments still took up the whole 50 minutes.

The students loved the zombie lesson.  I had made a couple self zombie pics from The Walking Dead app Dead Yourself and the kids got a kick out of trying to spot me throughout the ppt.

Glad you liked it! :) The game worked really well with my higher level student no problem. Some of my lower levels need a little help, from my co-t, with the game, but only because they weren't sure what some of the items were.
Feel free to amend to your needs too! I thought I found the original game (that I downloaded and amended) here on Waygook, but I couldn't find it anywhere, hence the new post. So...really I can't take much in the way of credit, only resharing the OP's work :)

The conditionals class was all my own though, so I appreciate any feedback :)

Here is my class for Halloween. I did this with last years G1's and they loved it!! ;D ;D You will need access to the first 15 mins or so of the Scream movie. I downloaded it, and then found the subtitles. If the subtitles are a little slow, you can move them on a little bit by pressing > in GOM player. Just drag and drop the subs into GOM. I tried to attach them on here, but it won't let me  so take a look here (https://www.google.co.uk/#q=scream+1+korean+subtitles) to see if you can get them.

I started by playing the Thriller song, and then told them to match the bold, capitalized words to the meanings. We went through these, and then watched the opening scene to Scream up until where she says "Why do you wanna ask me out on a date?". Pause it there, and in pairs have them write a script for what they think happens next. I wrote sound effects on the board like "Bang!" "Aargh!" "Ding Dong!" "Rah!" "Bring Bring!" "Mwahahaa!" etc etc, which they loved.

Choose one or two pairs to act them out to the class - depending on how much time you have. For the quiz section (takes about 15-20 mins) the answers are on the PPT. I gave out either plus points (school reward system) or candy to the ones with the correct answer. You could put them into teams if you wanted to save on candy though :)

If you have any time left, tell them to do the word-search (I've also attached the answer to this) and/or show them what actually happens next in the movie. PRE-WARN THEM about the 'goriness' of it all. Tell them if they are squeamish etc to stand outside, as it's not suitable for everyone  Also there is a tiny bit of swearing, but only one or two words I think  The majority of mine loved it though, and have begged me to show them the rest of the movie every since lol.

Here is an art activity for Halloween. I am going to do it with 1st grade next week. I've made a PPT with step by step directions and here is the link to the worksheet.

As I'd already done the Scream/Thriller class with my current G2's (last years G1's) I did a separate PPT for them based on famous horror movie characters. I got the original PPT here >> http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,374.msg2465.html#msg2465 << and just amended it for my class.

In the Halloween G2 PPT I talk about typical Halloween icons like pumpkins, bats, cats etc etc and then move on to talk about famous Halloween related/horror movies and their characters. Most of my G2 students knew some of the more famous ones like The Ring, The Tale of Two Sisters (Korean horror movie) and the Scream movies for example.

So then we looked at some other famous horror movie characters by introducing them on the PPT and then looking at the movie trailers (these weren't partic scary) this took about 10-15mins. I then had students come up with their own horror movie villain (about 15-20mins) and do a short presentation on them (10-15mins). Afterwards, I scared the life outta them by showing them the scary car commercial ad.

I've attached all the sound and video clips as well :)

Great lesson! I made a visual list of everything on the survival kit just so they'd know what all the things are. :)

my high school students (all boys) loved this lesson! So much fun for Halloween class. I made some role cards and resource cards to easily keep track of what each team had and how many people were still alive. Took a bit of prep., but worth it I think. I know my kids love to cheat, so this helped stop that
