This is an end of term quiz lesson based on the British TV show
A Question of Sport. It works really well as a fun end of semester game, it requires a pretty good level of English OR a co teacher willing to help out with the questions.
The quiz contains 4 different rounds:
Picture board
Observation
What Happens Next
On The Buzzer
There are pretty clear instructions for each round in the PPT and also on a previous version of the game I made and uploaded to my website
http://www.highschoolesl.com/2013/05/esl-lesson-plan-question-of-sport-quiz.htmlNotes: I tried to include a range of sports, but the topics my students know best are European football, general questions about Korean sports and a little about basketball. If you know your students have other sporting interesting just change some questions around.
I also gave the impression that I was asking questions randomly, but I was definitely choosing my questions to suit each groups interests. For students with a very low sporting knowledge, I asked them general questions such as 'Which sport uses the smallest ball?', this way it is still a challenge but anyone could guess the answer.
Two or maybe more of the questions are about thing that could have changed by the time you use the quiz, these are: 'Who is top of the EPL?' and 'Who is the top goal scorer in the EPL?'
Finally I downloaded all my videos for the what happens next section, from a what happens next game I found at this website
http://fourfootprints.com/2011/10/esl-lesson-predictions-middle-school/. You can download these very easily from that website. The videos used in this quiz are the 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th.
The videos are supposed to be embedded in the PPT, but for whatever reason this didn't work out and I had to leave the PPT to show the video. This didn't interupt the game at all.
