2014 Grade 3 Cheonjae 1 - 4. I Like Apples

Taught a similar lesson to the grade 3's last year called 'I like Cats.' Anyway, I used this rap and work sheet last year and it went over well. (Somebody else created the worksheet, so big thanks go to that person). Also, I have adapted the ppt file I used last year to use lesson 4 vocabulary (why they need to learn the words banana, cheese, pizza, chicken, tomato and sandwich even though they are the same in English and Korea mystifies me).

Heres what I got for you guys. turns out, the book I had last year had a lesson "I like Kimchi" so I went ahead and modified that a bit. Have an intro ppt and Pororo game. Might need to add a little activity before the game though.

Here's a little story I made up loosely based off of Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Basically, I gave every student a piece of paper titled "The Greedy Food Monster" that was otherwise blank. They had to listen to the story and draw the monster. The vocabulary focuses on foods and numbers but also uses body part language.
I acted the story out as I read it and the students enjoyed when I paused for them to guess which body part was what food. Since some of the vocabulary is above their level and a few of my kids are slower learners, I made a ppt to go along with the story that my co-teacher clicked through as I told it. The students had fun comparing their monster to mine at the end.
For a more difficult variation, you could tell/act out the story first. Then go through the ppt afterward and elicit the narrative from the students.
Anyway, my kids loved it and it took up quite a bit of time (maybe 20 minutes?) as they are all perfectionists when it comes to drawing/coloring.

Here is a memory game I revised for this lesson.
This how I do it:
Choose one student to call out 1 number. Open the box. Choose another student to help with the dialogue. The students say the dialogue that matches the box. The second student then gives the second number hoping to find the matching box. I give stamps in my class, so if they find the matching box, they earn a stamp in their book.
A quick game if you have about 5 or so minutes before the end of class.

This vocabulary worksheet, worked really well: you can translate the words with the students and then get them to complete the wordsearch (this site is great for making your own wordsearches
http://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/wordsearch.php
) , then you can play a game of bingo.

As a review activity to treat them at the end of the lesson I decided we'd do my On Top Of Spaghetti Lesson that I'd done in the past with 1st and 2nd grade. My 3rd grade today absolutely loved it as well. It ties in nicely with the food based lesson that they learned, so I'd recommend it if you have time. A nice song, reading and craft.
You can see my lesson and links to downloads here:

Here is a writing worksheet and PPT to help explain. They need to draw a smiley or frowny face depending on whether they like that food and then write the sentence.

I adapted this game from another Grade 3 textbook to fit in with the vocabulary. I also added in some extras- chocolate, cake and gimbap.

A creative activity based on the "Do you like broccoli ice-cream?" song as it's my favorite ESL song ever. The kids make their own yucky food combos and get so into it. Even my low-levels ask for extra worksheets to make more :) Mine was "Do you like Kimchi Cake?". They lost their minds.

A Pokemon telepathy writing game I adapted for this lesson's specific vocabulary. I also added in some extra words.
