2014 Grade 3 Daekyo 1 - 4. It's Big
« on: April 11, 2014, 07:00:29 AM »
Here are my materials for this lesson. Some I made, some I tweaked...

I decided to add more vocab because I am fairly 90% of my students know all the Daekyo vocab, so I am focusing on opposites, sort of.

vocab worksheet with role play "Emperor's New Clothes" (for the text in red you might want to have it translated or just take it out, unless your students are really high level.)
vocab review
It's big board game (nothing fancy, just a descriptor speaking game, "Look at the snake! It's long." etc.) two versions, PDF and PPT (so you can edit it, if you want)
Sesame street warm up vid
Period 2 homework
Period 3 crossword, the clues are in Korean and they have to write the English. The answer sheet is the second page.

Here's a PPT I made, as well as a Car Race PPT Game I took from somewhere on this website and adapted it for this lesson. Thanks to the original maker of the game.

Big thanks and credit goes to Bella85.
I tweaked the file for the intro ppt and put in a youtube video of big and small as a motivational for the students (a box will come up hit the second option 이내용을 and the first button.)  Also added in the dialogue to Listen & Repeat and will have the students change the dialogue to make it more personable to them.

Made a simple pass the ball game from Bella85 pictures on the car race game and will have the class practice key expressions together and have the student holding the ball practice the answer.

I used the PPT from a combination of other teacher's materials so thank you!

It's for pg 46 section. Intro includes a lion king circle of life link.

Enjoy and thanks to the other teachers :)

Here's a Gangnam Style game. There are two pictures of me, so you'll have some confused students unless you replace them with yourself or something else.

Here's some of the materials I used for this lesson.

First, I have a simple pattern drill and practice to teach the key words and expressions.

Next, I have some flash cards I posted on the board for a snatch game. For this game, I have students move their desks to the sides of the room. Then 1 student from each team (3 teams total) stands in the back and receives a fly swatter. All 3 students must hold the fly swatter on top of their heads. Then I say something like, "Look at the dog. It's big." The students then walk like penguins while holding the fly swatters on top of their heads. The first student to hit the correct flash card and say the animal name wins a point.

Next, I have a wheel game. The students are partnered up and use a paperclip and a pencil. They spin the paperclip around the pencil, say the key expression (Look at the ___. It's ___.), and mark that spot. The first student with all spots marked wins.

Storybots phonetics for M and N. Youtube also has O and P. (my students liked the songs - both 3rd and 4th grade - very good material).

Included is a phonetics PPT with the hyperlinks for the phonetics songs.

Here is my introduction Powerpoint for this unit. It's a pass the ball chant that includes a lot of repetition. It includes the terms big, small, long, and tall. I use the same game at the introduction of each unit. The kids never seem to tire of passing a ball around the room.

Here's a 4-page worksheet packet I put together. It includes picture matching, find the missing letter, decode the message, and some multiple choice questions. Happy teaching!

Here's a simple speaking game that doesn't require technology. I made copies of the Lesson 4 cards from the back of the book and laminated them.

Depending on how many students are in your classroom, there are 3-5 matching cards of each picture. I had them put their heads down so they couldn't see, but each student got one card and they have to go around the room to find their matching groups.

They had to ask "What's that?"
Answer: It's a "____ ______." (fast hamster, small cat, etc...) "What's that?"
"It's a ____ _______." If they have the same card, they link up to find the rest of their teammates.

The first group to find all of their teammates got stickers, or however you want to reward them.

My kids were really excited to do this game and kept asking for one more time.
