2014 Grade 3 Daekyo 1 - 5. How Many Apples?
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:52:53 PM »
Here are some materials I created for this lesson and a video for warm up.

Vocabulary sheet with the script to the next story time role play with added lines because it's too easy for my students.

The survey game instructions are included on the first slide. I recommend laminating the cards. (I usually cut them afterwards, which is fine if you use 150 micro coating sheets.)

Pass the ball!  Kudos to whoever made the original!

I put the 6 fruits, and a few things from chapter 2 (robot, cup, ball, book) and pencil!  as long as your kids can count to about 10, you should be fine

I hope it helps-

Hello all a simple vocab ppt to teach some fruits and numbers, as well as some key expressions.  The game at the end is used at a number guessing game.

One student will pick a fruit and ask How many apples? and write down the number he is thinking of 1-6.  The second student will guess the number by saying three, please.  Student two gets two tries.

Big thanks to travelinpantsgirl for the song and pictures of the fruits.

Why are there no threads for the story time?

Why are there no threads for the story time?

Maybe a lot of other teachers are combining both parts of Story Time into one lesson. When you do that, the lesson largely teaches itself.

I used a template from another chapter to make this Snakes and Ladders game. Use the dice to count the fruit. For example, if you roll a three: "How many apples? Three apples." Enjoy!

I took dru20081's (thanks!) PPT and modified it into a bingo game.

Enjoy!

Here are pictures of the fruit for the students to cut out and paste for the Fruit Bingo (see above post) game if you have lower level students who are struggling to write.

This game is similar to Battleship.  Everyone draws 10 "Jolamen" (stick figures) on their game boards.  Make sure no one is peeking at their friend's paper!

Once that's done, choose two students to stand up.  The whole class will call out "How many apples?" and student 1 will say, for example, "6 apples."  Next the whole class will call out "How many kiwis?" and student 2 will say, for example, "2 kiwis."

The intersection of those two numbers is then crossed out and anyone with a "Jolaman" at that spot now only has 9 men left.  Continue until someone loses all of their men.

I've played this game many times and it's almost always been successful.  The kids get to speak English, practice their target sentence structures, and have fun all at the same time.  I'll include a blank template that you can use for other lessons as well.

Period 4 Activity - Candy Edition

Basically, we did the market activity in the book. I arranged the desks in groups before they came in and assigned them to "shops" as they walked in. Each group is a store (fruits, other food, animals, and toys). They come up with a name and make their own sign.

Then, I gave each team a sheet of paper with a table on it. Each column has an item for sale on top, and there are 20 spaces for candy. Have the students place candy in each box. Then, assign each student in the group a number. (I did 1-4 but it depends how many students you have.) Ones are the first shoppers, so they stand up and go around to the different tables asking for items. The students at the table answer together. ("_____, please." "How many _____?" "__ _______, please." "Here you are." "Thank you.")

I let each student buy three pieces of candy. WARNING: This amounted to 300 pieces of candy at my school. If you don't want to buy that much candy, reduce the number or use stickers or cards instead. This was meant to be a special treat, so I didn't mind buying it.

After the Ones finish shopping, Twos get up and Threes sell. Continue until everyone has finished.

Baskin Robbins Bomb game.
Very simple questions.
The last four questions are blank.
Thanks to the creator of this template; it's fantastic!

Daekyo Grade 3, Lesson 5 - Let's Write Game & Find the Candy Game
« Reply #14 on: June 11, 2014, 12:28:57 PM »
Here's the Let's Write game for this lesson.  Each student picks one item and write it on their white boards.  Then I have them read each item together.  Then they hold up their whiteboards.  They have to put their whiteboard down when their word disappears from the screen.  The last word left on the board is the winning word and they receive a point for their team.

Also - Find the Candy Warmup!  Each student reads one of the items in turn from the PPT. If they can't read, I have them tell me the color and then repeat after me.  Then click the one they chose.  That word will disappear. If there's a candy gif behind their word, I give them a sticker after class.  Once a word has been found just click the forward arrow to move to the next slide and keep going.

Enjoy!

This is an activity i used for review. You will need the print out attached, 6 dice and the large fruit flashcards from the resources folder. The object of the game is to get a signature from each fruit shop. move 6 desks to the outside of the room and tape a flashcard to each.
S1: Apples please.
S2 (shopkeeper): How many apples?
S1: 4 apples, please. (if the students rolls a 4 he cant get the shopkeepers signature)
S2: either "goodbye" or "Here you are." depending on the outcome.

Change the shop keeper half way through the game.

Here is an activity for the READ ABC section where students have to guess letter Q, R, S, T or U. When students see slide I make the sound of the letter and the students guess what letter. Students then say the letter, the sound, and the word.
