Short Glee Winter Camp
« on: February 24, 2015, 04:05:17 PM »
Hello all!!  So because of all the major DMOE cutbacks I will no longer be teaching in high school.  But I have a lot of great materials that worked really well this year with my students, mostly lessons adapted from multiple sources, waygook included.  So it's my time to give back.

This is my high school winter camp I did based on the American TV show, Glee.
This winter it was a short, 5 day camp, that ended up getting cut down to only 70 minutes a day.  So it was a little difficult to cram all that I wanted to do in that short amount of time.  But overall I would say the camp was a success.  My students were very attentive and involved.

I didn't want to waste my students time by just having them watch Glee episodes and then not having enough time to utilize their English skills.  My major goal of this camp was for my students to be able to ask questions about American culture and give them the opportunity to understand it more.
Over the course of the week, we watched Season 1, Episodes 1, 4 and 6.  I thought these had good topics to talk about and to introduce to students that may not be exposed to these issues all that much.

I mixed watching the episodes (all of them can be found on heyheyfriends.com), learning an English phrase of the day, having students ask culture and difficult word questions, and then doing an activity based on the episode.

Here I have attached my powerpoints for everyday, the handout booklets, and the lesson plan.  I honestly ran out of time everyday, but that's usually what happens with my classes when it's a more casual setting.

This camp was an all girls, intermediate level camp.

I hope this proves helpful to someone.  :)
