Has anyone else noticed the flashcards in the back of this new YBM textbook? They look like the kind of thing the students could keep on an ordinary binder ring. For each lesson there are between 4 and 9 cards with the words/pictures for some key vocabulary. I actually think the textbook creators got pretty smart with this one! Granted, as long as the kids can keep up with their cards, I think they could be very useful (I know when I'm studying another language, this kind of simple reference is helpful). I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas for how the flash cards on a binder ring could be used. So far, I've thought they might be good for: self-study, quiz-style study with a partner, pop quizzes, word lotto, some kind of warm-up activity (i.e. the students are given 1 minute to review their cards, then given a word puzzle to see how many they can find). Anyone else think these cards might be helpful? Any other ideas for how to use them?
How do you guys keep the class interested when its the same occupations coming up? My teacher is a recent grad, can't control the class, and works solely from the book. I'm a new EPIK teacher myself and am not sure how to interject games into the class. For the first part I just drilled the key vocab but the students got bored fast and it was chaos for the last 20mins :(Theres another 4 parts to this lesson, how to keep it fresh?
