I made a vocabulary PPT for Lesson 1 nothing special I promise you. I have the Korean translation included in the PPT. If someone could link this in for the new textbooks that would be great.

Intro ppt of key words/expressions. You'll need to change the example, "jesica" on slides 20 and 21 because that's my name (yes, only 1 's' ㅎㅎ)

A worksheet tweaked to suit the lesson. Make your own changes; the Korean headings and instructions, follow the style of my previous Korean co-teacher:) kudos to them and whoever designed this template! thanks for the help :)

Hey here's a ppt for 24 of the vocab words (I excluded bear which I thought was random and didnt' find in any of the conversations in the first lesson). I let the kids try to guess the countries by just revealing one picture at a time and they seemed to like it and I also included the korean words but other than that it's just the vocab words. Hope this helps!

Flag cards to play for lesson one.

Slap the country:

Each pair of students places all 10 cards between them.
Students ask "Where are you from"
Teacher responds "I am from....."
Student who slaps the right card first gets to keep it.
The winner is the one with the most cards.

Simple. Easy. Fun.
Print. Cut. Laminate.

Chapter context - give students a few seconds to guess how many countries there are in the world. Then congratulate student who gets nearest number.

On one of the pages for this chapter there's a section that asks them to choose "say" vs "spell" and "what" vs "where". here's a powerpoint i did to practice those differences a bit more using the 'O and X' game.

for those who don't know this game, it basically works like this: all students stand up. they read the dialog. if they think it's right they make an 'O' with their arms, if they think it's wrong they make an 'X' with their arms. if they get the answer correct they stay standing, if they get it wrong they sit down. all students still standing at the end are the winners.

i spent quite a bit of time making this powerpoint pimping, so i hope you guys and gals can get some use out of it

Hey all, back for another year of teaching & sharing ppt's. Be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more ppt's for the later parts of the lesson.

Slap game: Divide the class into two teams, 2 students come up to the front and have their back facing the TV screen with fly swatters. Everyone asks me "Where are you from?" I answer "I'm from ____." Both students then turn around & the first person to slap the correct flag on the TV using the fly swatter gets a point for their team. (Ideal for the first period)

Elimination game: Instructions on the PPT, click the box after the student reads it to reveal the O or the X. (Ideal for the fourth period)

Here's my lesson mash up. Literally. I have a look at all the other ppt's posted and tweaked, mixed and mashed them all together to make something that works for me. So thank you to all previous posters (I've mixed it up too much to know who is who now). I liked the 'slap game' idea from Artisis, but I decided to try using their worksheet to make a RPS game instead ( I reposted it as well). After going through the ppt, getting them to guess the vocab words and country etc, practice the key phrase, do the text book work (pg 10-11), then the RPS game (as explained in the ppt. It does get very noisy, so if you want to keep it sedate you could let them do it in small groups instead of a full class milling scenario. The cards could also be used in a 'go fish' style game too). Review vocab after if there is time.

Here is a crossword activity. I plan to use it in period 5. Students work in pairs, one as student A and one as student B. They must use the dialog to ask their partner for the answers to the crossword. Compete to see who finishes first if you like.

Here's a blazing pens game from a template that I found on this website last semester. I just filled in the vocab and sentences from this chapter and used it as a game with the 4th period section. My kids are low level so we didn't finish it all but it gets progressively harder.

For period 4 as a supplemental/ additional activity in the "reading around us" section.

Students read (individually or as a group) and solve the riddles. The answers are either fruit or animals.

Below is a spinner with different countries' flags on them. You can use it for whatever purpose you want. I'm going to use it during period 2 when the students have the simple speaking section. Call on students, have one ask, spin and another answer.

Hello fellow teachers,

Here's a passport application for kids to fill out and present in from of the classroom. The application targets the key words and sentences in this lesson.

One is blank for kids to fill out and the other has words filled out for example purposes to kids.

Lesson 5, Period 5 - Writing

I followed the book, explained "Am, is, are/I, he, she, it, we, they" and that "I AM the special king" using pictures on the board. My drawings are weird enough that it keeps their attention and it also uses up a bit of time in a lesson that seems really short. We finish off the rest of the writing practice, making sure that everyone gets it and gets it done. (Shut up and stop showing off, hagwon victim. Go help that poor lost soul instead)

Then we go into this PPT. It starts off with 5 basic words, then 5 countries and finally 5 sentences. Nothing overly difficult. This is practice, not a TV game show, after all :)

You will need to work with your co teacher on this because it is not always easy trying to see who had their board up AND correct first. Often one team will be first, but not correct, and then things start getting rough. Always remember though that the referee (teachers') rulings are final.
