2015 Grade 6 Daekyo 1 - 1. I'm From France
« on: February 24, 2015, 03:27:36 PM »
Looks like there might not be too many people with this new Daekyo book. Here's an elimination game that I took from a different user last year, but I changed the vocabulary to be more relevant to this chapter.

If you don't know how to play an elimination game it's pretty simple. Start out with all the students standing up. One by one, they will choose a word/sentence and the teacher will click on the box with that word/sentence. If there is an O behind the box the student can remain standing, if there is an X, the student is out and they must sit down. This is continued until there is one student left, who I usually give a reward to.

I created a rough outline of chapter 1 lesson 1.  Attached is lesson plan with dialogue and a game idea.
Creative criticism welcome

This is a game I played today using the cards from the book. The rules are explained in the power point and I used an online timer on the whiteboard and gave them one minute to form the longest 'train' They seemed to really enjoy the game and were using the target language.

Herre are some materials for this chapter.  The quiz game is mostly review of what they studied last year.  Other materials may have been borrowed and adapted, so I say Thank You to the original posters!

I also found a cool video of "Let It Go" in 25 languages with captions and the singers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0Vy6xBjbKg

This game is based off of one my CT found from a community of Korean English Teachers. This is only a warm up activity for the Look & Listen portion of lesson 1 just to liven things up a bit. It's the X O (true/false) game. The teacher asks the provided question. Counts 1 2 3 (Optional) and students will hold their arms up in an X or O in response to the question. I usually have my students read the questions and answers aloud. Hope this works for everyone. Feel free to make any changes.

Looks like we mightve gotten stuck with an unfavorable textbook. The good news is that it's extremely similar to the 천재교육 from a few years ago. I outlined which chapters they resemble from the blue 6th grade text:

New book >>  Old book
Lesson 2 >> Lesson 12
Lesson 3 >> Lesson 4
Lesson 4 >> Lesson 6
Lesson 6 >> Lesson 9
Lesson 10 >> Lesson 12
Lesson 12 >> Lesson 9

Attached is an alternative to the card game on page 11 (Go Fish)
I was considering doing famous people and a few facts about them, then students can play that card game like Inglorious Basterds.

Hi Teachers^^

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the teacher's guide?
If so, would it be possible to please upload a copy if you've been able to download it? Even if it's for the first lesson, it would be greatly appreciated :cheesy:
Apparently we won't be getting the teacher's guides until end of the week/early next week (gg daekyo).
Thanks everyone!

Thanks Mr C!
For teachers - this explains activities using the key expressions and the cards in the book in English and Korean, but isn't necessarily the teacher's guide (I taught last year with Daekyo's G3 and G4 textbooks and this doesn't actually explain the lessons like the teacher's guide does, unless they've changed everything) but regardless is an awesome resource for the book and activity ideas.
Thanks again  ;D  ;D  ;D

I noticed people are in desperate need of the Teacher's guide for this book in English. My co-teacher was kind enough to send me the file for all the lessons. So here it is! Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to attach it as an entire folder, so I had to upload each one. Here are the first several, and I will do the rest soon!

Here is a cool PPT with foods representative of various nations that are made to look like the flag.  Good guessing game with the added bonus of food.

I didn't include it in my list above because I did this with these students last year.

I made a worksheet you can use for this chapter. It has vocab and grammar and a few other activities. I usually give a vocab and key expression test at the end of each chapter/lesson.

Hope it helps.
