2015 Grade 5 Cheonjae 2 - 2. What Are Those?
« on: March 02, 2015, 02:08:59 PM »
Lesson plan for 5.2.1

Lesson includes:
chat about the winter hols, review of textbook characters, textbook video, new vocabulary and grammar, textbook listen & do, textbook chant, textbook guess the treasure game, star game (only if you have time remaining, see below for how to play)

Notes:
- minimal prepwork: print out the stickers through the digital textbook, cut them up, and put them in a cup or something for the students to pick out during a practice game for the guess the treasure game.
- if you choose to play the star game, you'll need to write the vocabulary words on small slips of paper and put them in a cup
- If you did not start with ch. 2 like I did, you might like to remove slides 1, 2, and 5~11
- To fill in the time if you take slides out, the teacher's manual has a photocopiable worksheet on P37 of the resource book.

Star game:
1. draw the star (you can see what it looks like on later slides but I usually draw it with the students because they sometimes get confused about what lines to draw)
2. put vocabulary into the circles
3. put a couple of stars on different lines (I usually do a first game with 3 and a second game with 5 including one double-star line)
4. first vocabulary word you call out is the starting word
5. for second vocabulary word, the students follow from the first word to the circle with the second word.
6. repeat until all vocabulary is called out
7. students with the most stars win
NOTE: there are five circles but usually more than five vocabulary words. You can split the words and use a different set of five words in different games, or have them choose five words from all the vocab and have them wait if one of their words isn't called

Lesson plan for 5.2.2

Lesson includes:
textbook video, zoom in review and correct the spelling, textbook listen & repeat, notes, textbook talk together, textbook "guess the card" game

Notes:
minimal prepwork: bring up the pictures on slides 6-17 using the urls at the bottom right of the slides and zoom in as far as you can

Zoom in review:
1. Zoom as far as you can into the pictures.
2. Slowly zoom out until a student can guess what it is

Lesson plan for 5.2.3

Lesson includes:
textbook speak and read, textbook read and do, textbook read and play, textbook fun with words, two worksheets from the teacher's resource book.

Notes:
minimal prepwork: print the worksheets out. Make them double-sided to save paper if you can.

Lesson plan for 5.2.4

Lesson includes:
special days in Korea (Teacher's day and Children's day) hidden picture activity, textbook let's read, reading back the passages with some words covered up by Miss A's Suzie, Crayon Pop, some lad from EXO, and one other random kpop face I found, and then all the rest of the activities spanning p. 32~35.

Notes:
no prepwork

Lesson plan for 5.2.5

Lesson includes:
textbook song, textbook act and play

Notes:
anywhere from minimal to maximum prepwork: minimal means you give the students some paper and coloured pencils and tell them to draw a picture for the Act and Play section; maximum means you tell their homeroom teacher to tell them to bring in a big picture of the target vocabulary from like a magazine or wherever and prepare some back-ups in case some don't.

Here is a telepathy game for practicing writing. Thanks to "Kyndo" for getting the links working right so I could make it.

Here is my first period lesson for this chapter!

I added a little more to the chapter to keep the students more engaged and they really seemed to enjoy it.

I have to do the book work so a small listening activity is included as well.

It's short but since it's the first week back my student barely made it to the review.

Some stuff I'm gonna use in priod 2 and 5.

distance is just a ppt with the key phrases and some explanation of close / far, these / those

Picture reveal is a game for the class, can do in teams

Moving game is kinda checking up with students moving a little bit (left side of the class if it should be "these" etc

Basic stuff for lower level classes.

Reading game for Period 3

2 players. Students roll the dice. They write the number in the box (points) and read the sentence that matches their number. Each student goes 10 times.

Penalty-Students must roll each number at least once. If they don't, that number is subtracted from their total score.

There are 2 games (A game and B game) so there are two sets of sentences. I want them to use English to tally their scores too.

Simple game Idea:

At the front of the class place two desks with different items on both. (one near and one far away) Call up a group of students. Point at a set of objects and the students have to say the dialogue "What are those/these?" "They are...". (half and half, or all together) If they use the correct words, they roll a dice for points. Then move to the next group.

This is my ppt for part 2.

Review using the game cards and then step by step instructions for Speak and Play.

I've also attached the Speak and Play cards in jpeg form in case people need them.

Going to use this video as motivation I think:

I wish I had the actual book, but this is pretty good.

Hello,

Reference: These are, those are, they're

I put this together today and haven't used it yet so it may suffer teathing problems. I thought id better get it up quickly as I was struggling myself to think of things I could do with this dull yet quite necessary topic. You let them look at the slide with all the different things on, ask them to remember what they see, and then get them to write on their worksheets. You can choose your own scoring (spelling etc). I did a similar game in middle school with clothes and it went down quite well. Hope it helps.

Regards,

Ian

Needed an activity for Period 2, so I decided to whip up a clap game using part of the dialogue.

Hope it can be useful for someone.
