2015 Grade 5 Cheonjae 2 - 3. Where's the Museum?
« on: March 26, 2015, 02:51:33 PM »
Hi guys, struggling with material for this.

For the first period I made a basic vocab introduction and an elimination game.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

I look forward to seeing more material posted for this book soon.

Thanks.

Here's a motivational Prepositional song. Better than the one of the 12 year old singing into an old mic.

I'm using the following video to help my students learn more places. My co teacher gave it to me and asked me to help them learn the vocabulary words only. I've attached the Youtube version (the file is too large to attach) and a PPT with screen shots to use to help review of each place.

After we review (then do some boring book work), we are playing the slap game to help remember the vocab.

Here's a worksheet I modified for 'Where's the Museum?'

It contains vocab, key sentences, dialogue and a simple word search

Thanks to the original poster of this worksheet. I just went in an plugged the new material for this lesson. Hope it's helpful!

Also, can a moderator so kindly create a live link for the chapter? Very much appreciated =)

Check out that thread for a lot of ideas. This lesson was in the sixth grade book last year.

I used this video last year. My kids seemed to like it. And I did hand movements along with the video/prepositions. I had the kids do it with me too. It's the video with the carrot singing/following the preposition actions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2WbXk2Mb5c

Second period - a quick review of the buildings and some of the prepositions covered in the first period, and a pass the ball game to practice.

I used school, restaurant, post office, museum, park, library, and bank. If you want to do something similar but expand the vocab, this Scribblenauts wiki has really nice building images - no writing to spoil answers, and transparent so you can arrange them however you want. http://scribblenauts.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Buildings

My where's the museum reveal game. I have no idea who originally did the template for this game but it saves my life a couple of times a week.

Based on the work up to lesson 3.4., adapted from the Super Mario quiz template by powelldr.

The file's quite big, since I used images from the textbook.

Question types are:
A-D) Choose the right empty box given the sentence shown.
E-K) Say the dialogue "Where's the X", "It's...", based on highlighted building.
L-Q) Spell the building - Korean and highlighted image shown.
R-T) Read the sentence, look at the picture, and choose X or O. Can also prompt "why X?"
U-W) Look at the picture and write the directions ("Come to...", "It's ...")
X-Z) Identify and spell the words missing from the dialogue (from Story Time)

If you need the sound file, get it from the template post.

Hey kimchiteaches,

Can you please re-upload your worksheet?
Can't seem to see the attachment. Or is it just me?

Thanks a lot!

Here is a fun speaking game I made~ I used it last year on the House chapter and my fifth graders loved it.

Groups have to guess where the puppy is. It's at a different location each slide - but you might stay on the same slide for a while depending on how long it takes them to guess. They have to use full sentences to answer before they're shown if their guess is right or wrong. So they say "The puppy is between the bank and the museum" then you can click that box to see if they're right or wrong.

Pretty straight forward guessing game. Gets them talking and they get super excited when they find the puppy.

Hope this helps someone out~ Have fun!

I revised an activity another user uploaded for last year's book.  I gave each place a specific name to make identifying the places easier.

The students should ask the teacher "Where is ________?" and you give the instructions. The students have to write the number in the correct box.

I have attached the game board, and answer sheet and the sentences you should read to the students.

See below for a screenshot of the actual activity.
