Here's a ppt I'm using with period 2 for this lesson, but you can use it for any period really. It's a ppt I made for another book a few years ago and am now using for this lesson. Necessary key expressions are there plus a bit more, which is no harm IMO as these new YBM books for 2015 are too easy, even the students complain! You'll probably have to change the picture on slide 6 as it's of the English room in my school.

5-4-1 Intro ppt with keywords and key sentences in English and Korean. Practice ppt.

5-4-23 Combine parts 2 and 3. Practice focuses on listening to new pattern, "Do you have ____ today?" Game focuses on practicing "What's your favorite ___?"

A keywords and key sentences worksheet and a few of the book recommended worksheets.

Evolution game (speaking) and Pirate gate (reading), adapted from others' work to match this book's grammar

Edit: Added "What's behind" suitable for lesson 4 or later. It's usually used as a reading game but I'll make them write sentences.

Here's a slap or flyswatter game in which the students have to ask me "What's your favorite color/food/class?" and they have to slap what I answer. It starts out easy and then gets a little harder the more pictures I put in a slide.

I did this last year with the 5th graders, we watched My Favorite Things from the Sound of Music!

This is for period 3.

Instead of doing the game in the book (they are just awful right?!), I will have my students create schedules and guess one another's schedules.

1. Print the attached form (5 schedules per page) and give one schedule to each student.
2. Have them fill out the schedule writing one class per day.
3. Students will do rock, paper, scissors to see who starts off:

Dialog: A:Do you have art on Monday? (Student picks a subject and a day)
B: Yes I do. (Student gets one point and can guess again)/ No I don't. (Take turns)

Most points wins.

This is just something I threw together late yesterday, because I had some extra classes today (meaning, I won't teach all of the homerooms this lesson, it was just to fill my schedule).

I decided to go off the Story Pot and do role play. I made a simple script with six different shirts that all have food on them. I printed out each shirt and script and then laminated them, with the shirt on the front, script on the back.

The students were put into six groups where they practiced the role play together. I also had the script on the board.

They really enjoyed it.

Please feel free to change the script in any way you like. If I would have had more time, I probably would have done it a bit different. For example: the script says, "We are having __________ for lunch today!" but the story pot says something along the lines of "Today's lunch is _____________, so maybe I would have written it like that.

Also, I didn't take care in using is/are (pizza is my favorite food, strawberries are my favorite food)....but that is something that can be changed/explained when it comes up.

Activity: Free Point shoot out. (I got this off waygook last year and I have no idea who was the original creator, I would acknowledge them if I could).

Divide into teams as you see fit. I was able to run this without using the point scoring, 3 pointers or steal points, change slide headings to add those back in if you wish. If you don't have a ball just scrunch up some paper. A box will suffice for a 'basket'. Choose a player, they come to the line, reveal the subject for their sentence, get them to say the key phrase "My favourite 'blah' is 'blah'." You can extend it to "I like it because 'blah blah'" as well. Good for 15 minutes at least.

A rock, paper, scissors game with instructions in the beginning and practice slides! It took my kids almost 10 minutes just to get one point bc they kept losing lol but by the end they were really good and not shy about saying/yelling the phrases!
