No one is sharing much for this book so thought I would share what I did. It was, all around, a very active lesson for speaking/ part 2.

I have a very active class, so I broke them into teams and had one person represent the team to avoid it getting too hectic.

I don't see the point in the discovery fun stuff in the books, so we played a shouting game to start with. One person from each team stands up. I count to three, and at the same time they all say one word. If the word they say is the same as the other students in the class, they sit down. Anyone with a unique word gets a point.

Then, we played a basic four corners game. Again, only one student was allowed to stand at a time and run to a corner. Then their whole group had to say the answer. 1 point for each answer.

Lastly, we parted the desks to make a space and played mother may I. It went down better than I thought - they loved it. They lined up at the back of the classroom, asking questions which are allocated to a certain type/ amount of steps. Their groups had to ask the question and I would reply with 'Sure, help yourself/ Sure, you can.' or 'Sorry, you can't.' If I said yes, they were allowed to step that far. First to touch the desk gets a point.

Thank you for making these great activities!

May I ask you a question?  For the Four Corners game, what does the read door mean?  I have been looking at the book and I can't figure it out!  Thank you!

It is the 'May I come in?' question. I didn't know what picture to use. An open door was the best representation I could think of haha.

No no no!  It is great!  I just haven't had time to look through the lesson yet, but I have to teach a couple of extra classes tomorrow, so I have to do something.

Thank you so much!

I found a cute little song.
The song is about asking to borrow something, "May I borrow your_____?"
It kind of doesn't match the vocabulary of this lesson, but I think it is a good extention of the vocabulary.

The "Blind Taste Test" is something my students go absolutely crazy for. Here's how I did it for this lesson:

1) Find a bunch of foods / drinks from home or the supermarket. I used ten. It's better to have mostly things they'll enjoy, and a few that they'll hate. Make a numbered list of what you've brought and don't let students see it. And keep the food/drinks hidden so students don't know what to expect.
2) Write the numbers 1-10 on the board (or however many different foods you've brought)
3) Ask for volunteers to take the test. Choose one, make him/her choose a number and then erase it. Blindfold the student. Say "Here you are" and feed him/her the food or drink that has the same number on your list as the one erased from the board. All students ask "How's the food/drink?" ("It's sweet/salty/delicious" etc) and "Do you want some more?" ("Yes, please/No, thanks". Feed them more for "Yes, please"). Repeat until time is up or all food/drinks have been consumed.

With ten foods, this activity lasts about 20 minutes including explanation.

Notes:
1) Students are likely to go crazy begging to be the volunteer. You can pick them in fun ways: "First student (to touch your nose / tell me you love me)" etc.
2) Ask students about allergies first if you're not sure.
3) Vinegar works pretty well as one of the booby prizes. Also decent: salt water, hot sauce (although it's hard to know how hot to make it. My students mostly like drinking Tabasco!). For the good prizes, fruit, juice, chocolate, soft drinks etc all work well. They're not hard to please.
4) Tell the students to keep the food secret. It's more fun if the volunteer doesn't know what they're drinking. You can also make them guess what it was.

BASKIN ROBBINS reading PPT game. Tweaked this from another thread with a similar lesson and changed it to suit this lesson.

*Instructions included on PPT
*Easy to edit the vocabulary behind the ice-cream

*The whole slide will show the sentences/words (NOT the other way around, i.e ice-cream), when students read the word/sentence, click on it, it will then close that specific word/sentence with an ice-cream.

Here's what I got for lesson 5, as always be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more ppt's for the later parts of the lesson.

Slap game: Divide the class into two teams, 2 students come up to the front and have their back facing the TV screen with fly swatters. I ask the question "May I..." Both students then turn around & the first person to slap the correct picture on the TV using the fly swatter gets a point for their team. (Ideal for the first or second period)

Pass the Pencil Case game: Instructions included in the PPT. (Ideal for the first or second period)

More stuff for the writing section. It is a little weak in the book, they mostly just write words - my kids finish it in like 2 minutes. I made a worksheet - 8 questions, 4 are putting the words in order, 4 are checking the spelling. Nothing too visual but it gets them writing.

We also played a game, where I flashed a mixed bunch of words for 1 or 2 seconds and they had to write down the sentence. Fastest team wins.

This activity is good for any of the days for Lesson 5, but I did it on the first day and it was well received.

I have all students make a single line at the back of the classroom. I give each a card with a "May I ~" sentence on it. There should be 3-4 students with the same card for each sentences. I put 2 chairs in the front of the room. I read the first sentence. The 3 students with a matching card need to race to sit in the 2 chairs. The last one reads the next sentence (on the teacher's list of cards). Eventually you can narrow it down to one chair.  The students loved this game.
I simply made sentences according o the chapter and laminated them. I'll post the Word file I used to print and cut the cards. Let me know if it works in your class!

I made a nunchi game for this lesson.  It's probably a game that both you and your students will know.  The rules are simple; split the class into groups of 5 or more students, then they must get through the sentence by one student saying one word at a time.  If two students say the same word, the group fails.   My students have always enjoyed this game.

I'm behind on my uploads, so gonna work my way backwards.

This is the stuff i've made so far for this chapter:
1) 'Menu Activity' - I used this in the first period. Half the students play 'waiters' and half play 'customers'. Print out and laminate the menu and give it to half the students. i just printed 8 menus and had pairs of students share. the other half get the 'order sheet'. after 5 or 6 minutes collect the menus, distribute new order sheets, and change roles. my students actually really enjoyed this.

would suggest laminating the menus so they don't get messed up. BTW the menu is purposefully rotated in the PPT so that it prints vertically rather than horizontally.

2) Foods of the world, to use as a brief intro wherever. i get the students to try to guess the dish name, as well as the country it's from. you can turn it into a game too by either 1) splitting the students into groups, giving 1 point for the 1st team to shout out the food name, and 1 point for the 1st team to shout out the correct country; or 2) getting them to write down on mini whiteboards.

3) Another brief intro PPT on different foods and their associated tastes.

more stuffs from me:

1.) Stand, Read, Sit Game for the reading section (p. 84-85). Stole this from someone else hehehe. How this works is: Students stand up in pairs. Both read the sentence at the same time. First to finish reading sits down and gets a point. I played in rows of students because getting the whole class to do it at the same time gets a bit chaotic.

2.) Fill in the blanks comic strip thing - this goes with the writing section (p. 86-87). Just print out the 2 slides, then photocopy back-to-back/double-sided/whatever you call it. Unfortunately the 1 side came out a bit dark on our photocopier, but i've already finished teaching the writing lesson so I don't have time to change it.

enjoy my chinguz.
