Lesson 7-1
Introduction lesson covering Key Words and Expressions in both English and Korean. Ppt and worksheet.

Lesson 7-2
What's Missing game. Got it from a thread from my old book and changed it a bit. It's Simpson's themed.
Also, added Disappearing Dialogue retroactively.

Period 3 PPT and Game

Review PPT with Ask & Answer
(I hope you can respect the reference on the title slide)

Reading Game:
-Split the class into teams and split the blackboard into sections for each team
-In the sections, write the team name and #s 1-6.

-Students from each group come to the front and roll a big dice
-The whole group reads the matching sentence together.
-Then, the teacher erases that number

-The first team with all #s 1-6 erased is the winner.

Pretty easy stuff. Enjoy

An adaption of the Up Down game made by AlivePoet for the Grade 5 chapter "May I Help You?"

It works better in that chapter but it's a fun and easy way to teach new expressions. The students should learn the new expression, then repeat it on the next slide (prompted by the picture) and then choose whether they think the answer to the question will be yes or no. If yes, they stand up. If no, they stay sitting. They can mark their points if they guess correctly.

Also, just as an extra note, none of these modes of transport are covered in the textbook as far as I know. My co-teacher wanted to teach them some different ones so that's what this was for but you can easily adapt it as you see fit.

This is a make you own adventure story ^^  I just had them choose an answer in teams and they had to say the complete sentence....starts boring and then BAM! you're getting killed by robots. the kiddos LOVED it.

comic strip pulled from another thread and used for period 4.  it came after the "make your own adventure" game, so all the boys had the t-rex's weekend plans be "I'm going to eat/kill you!"

There are three comics...one has pictures and bubbles, one has bubbles, and one has no pictures or bubbles...the students really do start from scratch.

just depends what your students level is!   I did the one with pictures and bubbles and gave the option of the no pictures with bubbles. (about 2 or 3 students who love to draw used the no pictures with bubbles)

Oh! I almost forgot...BANG game! takes a little prep (to print and cut out the playing cards) but the game is beloved.

uses reading and speaking.
I included an introduction ppt for the game that uses a great video on how to play!

Credit to the person who came up this idea first.  I added a writing sheet. The ppt. has two examples of students should do.

1.  Students fill in columns with their own plans.
Example:  study English (at home), watch a movie (by bus) etc.

2.  Students interview two friends by asking.
"What are you going to do ~?
"Are you going there by bus?"

3.  Students create a sentence using the dialogue.
Example:  This afternoon, I'm going to study English [at home].  [Friends' name] is going to ____________ by  ___________.

Note:  This is a challenging activity, but it synthesizes all of the language they learned in this lesson.  The students really got into it and kept working even after the bell rang.

Practice (5): Remind students of key expressions and write them on the board

Story (35) - I edited a story to better reflect our key expressions this chapter that was posted by someone else (Thanks stranger!!!)
  • Teachers read story and ask comprehension questions
  • Reading race: In groups of 8, students race to read the story fastest while teachers record their times.
  • Put in order (slide 16): Cut out dialogue and students must put it in order with a partner, when they are done, they should raise their hands and teachers will come give them the next activity:
  • Fill in the blank (slide 17): Each pair gets a dialogue that has numbered boxes covering some of the words; In their English journals or on a scrap paper, each student writes the missing words next to the corresponding number
  • Make their own role play (slides 18-20): Students are given the option of 3 different role play templates: Easy (slide 20) - Original dialogue with a word bank to help (1 stamp for presenting); Medium (slide 19) - Some of the original dialogue framework is there but there are boxes for them to add their own ideas, they should not copy the story but come up with their own sentences (1 stamp for writing, 1 for presenting); Hard (slide 18) - zero writing (must be a creative dialogue with different format than the original story but include key expressions (2 stamps for writing, 1 for presenting

This a great story! I'm pretty sure you meant to post this in the 5th grade Lesson 7 thread.  :P

Writing class
Present sponge bob dialogues (10)
  • Students get a chance to present their dialogues from last class

Telepathy writing practice (15)
  • Students look at the picture and predict what is going to happen next from the four choices
    They write the full sentence in their English journals and if they are correct, they get one point.
  • Person with the most points at the end gets a stamp

Bingo survey (15)
  • Rock paper scissors, winner asks, “What are you going to do this summer?”
  • Loser answers question and winner records their answer on their sheet.
  • When they fill up 9 boxes, they get a stamp

Stations class
  • Station 1: Listen to “one way or another” and record the missing lyrics on stations wkst. First just watch the music video, then watch the lyric video at a slower speed so they can fill in the blanks. Remind students that the Korean is printed and it is a very repetitive song so they should be able to figure it out.
  • Station 2: Translate at their desks
  • Station 3: Answer the questions
  • Station 4: Decode the sentences
  • Station 5: Write 8 different combinations with the sentences given. If one of your sentences matches with mind and you find all three hidden smileys, you get an extra stamp
  • If they finish all the stations they should get a stamp, and can work on their “dream day”

Spy Game Cards and Explanatory PPT. Print off multiple card decks depending on how many groups you prefer (although the PDF has two of each, I printed a pair to have three of each card last minute). Helps immensely if they've played the game before.
