Hey,  I'm looking to do more listening/comprehension activities in my highschool classes.  Specifically, to prep them for the listening questions for their College Entrance Exam.
Does anyone have some links or ideas for this?

I've started using this site to transcribe some speaking activities into something that is more geared for Korean highschool.   Anybody use something similar? http://englishteststore.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13635&Itemid=208

Thanks!

Hello,

Late to response here. But if you still need ideas my school does dictation based on movies. So you could pick an age appropriate movie pick some lines from it and have them write down what they hear. It is a good way to get them listening and understand different accents and different levels of voices.

Headway and Speakout?  Can you be more specific?

Every thought of trying the IELTs or KET books? They are used by Cambridge testing for listening & speaking.  You can find some free materials online. If that doesn't work, I would recommend Solutions or Motivate books.

no. bad advice. i used to teach IELTS, but wouldn't recommend IELTS listening for general English study. the tests are very specific, and are SUPPOSED to be difficult. they provide no context (something which is important when doing any listening) and use difficult words and phrases, especially in part4.

as I said, i recommend SpeakOut or Headway. their listenings are great. they provide good context and always relate to the grammar point or topic being studied.

SpeakOut and Headway are ESL books used to teach adults but would be great for high school. They have different levels too. you're supposed to buy them, but you can download them by searching google for 'speakout pdf' or 'speakout audio' for example. you'll need to book and the audio together.

I made a half dozen listening exercises for a class I had a few years ago using audio and scripts from elllo.org. It's been a couple of years, so I can't guarantee their quality or completeness, but this might give you some ideas, at least.

Yeah, screw this guy, right? Trying to do his job better. What a shmuck. Bet he also reads books and talks to other teachers to get advice and ideas. Maybe even hangs out on a website designed for that exact purpose. What a loser.
