Lesson plan that doesnt involve ppt
« on: June 22, 2015, 11:52:35 AM »
Hey,

I'm looking for lesson plans that doesnt involve ppt for for very low-level high schoolers.  I have seen some amazing lessons on this site but most of them involve powerpoint. It`s a task for at my school to set up the projector for ppts so I`d rather not do it for every class.

And my students are extremely low level. They barely respond or speak to me at all so I really want to try to make classes interesting for them even a lot of them dont seem to be interested in learning English at all. I refuse to be demotivated. So if anyone has any ideas or lesson plans, please help!

Well - one can only hope your school has a printer, because most lessons require printouts.  That, or you better be a great artist and draw decent pics in lieu of printer.

I used to teach at an all-girls vocational high school. We had PC issues there, so I tried to minimise computer usage. Here are 5 complete lessons that mostly went well for me.

I had others that worked really well too. Hmmm... Where did they go??

Write on the board, use props, walk right up to students and ask them questions. Getting in their space tends to make things more interesting.

Games can be played with cards or print-outs. This attachment is my baby and something I've been working on. It's a 10-page list of games for elementary students, but a lot can be used for high schoolers too. Look for the games whose names are underlined. Those are the ones that don't require a computer in the classroom.

I don't know the actual names of these games (I made up the names), but my students enjoy playing them.
Guess the Card Game, Duel Game, and Dialog Wars.
Here are the' How to' PPTs
You said you don't use the projector, but I think you should be able to explain it through demonstration.
For Dialog Wars: I was able to demonstrate for my 5th and 6th graders, by drawing the grid on the board.
For Guess the Card: I was able to demonstrate with my co-teacher.
Of course, you'll have to do some major editing, but these are just ideas.
Good luck
