This is the second/third lesson I do each year after meeting new students... it is a way for me to introduce Canada to them, and in return for them to introduce Korea to me. I usually use their writing after to create a bulletin board as well. Second lesson is to get them comfortable with talking in full sentences.
Lesson 2 - Canadas Culture
1. Introduction - Word scramble
2. Talk about many groups in Canada - talk about various images
- Native Americans (explain why not Indians)
- Colonialism
- Influences - bilingualism, monarch
- Canadian mosaic today
3. Symbols in Canada - have students name images they know; talk about them
4. I am Canadian - show video and talk about defining self by often highlighting difference b/w Canada and US (I edited this video to add English subs to make it easier, but cannot upload that file type here. would also love to have it with Korean subs if possible)
5. I Am Korean
- ask students
what are you really proud of? what does it mean to be South Korean?
- 1st yr write 5-7 sentences; 2nd year write 7-10 sentences
- presentations if time (generally I do some in the next lesson)

Lesson 3 - Presentations and Famous Canadians
1. Canada Bingo
- Questions on powerpoint; have students answer in full sentences
- Go through all questions - play 1-2 times
2. I am Korean presentations
- I generally only have 1/2 the groups present... my students are in tables of 4 and they did the work in groups of 2, so rock paper scissors at each table to see what team will present
3. Famous Canadian
- Describe the person in the picture - full sentences (can say anything about them as long as it is full sentences)
- word scramble - read the full sentence
4. GAME - I have, Who has...
