Introductions - Second year with students
« on: September 04, 2015, 01:18:13 PM »
I did this lesson at the beginning of the new year with my second grade students who already knew me.

Lesson 1 - Introductions (who am I?)

1. Warm-up - boggle (http://www.wordplays.com/boggle)
- 3 mins to write as many words as possible that can be made using these letters
- no 2 letter words allowed (too easy)
- 3 letters = 1 point, 4 = 2 pts, 5+ = 3 pts
- can give bonus for longest word
- first time to play this with students I usually play twice. After the first game I give a hint that you can make more words by adding 's' to the (i.e., kid = 2pts, + kids = 3 pts = 5 pts)

2. Who am I? - Guess the famous people based on the clues provided

3. Write own ‘Who am I’
- fold over top of paper (about top 6th) and write ‘Who am I?’ on the outside of the flap
- under folded flap write student name (in Korean and English)
- Write minimum 6 sentences about self (using questions provided for ideas)
- Each sentence must be a minimum of 4 words (I give the example of "I like pizza" not being allowed, but "I really like pizza" is okay)

3. Collect papers as students finish. Once most are done, shuffle them and select a random student to choose one to read. Have the class guess who it is about. Do 3-5 different ones.

4. Game - Guess Who with famous people
- Have 20-30 images on a slide
- I will think of one person, and students need to ask yes/no questions to figure out who I am thinking of
- The student who guesses the correct person will then choose the next famous person and answer questions
