Pets lesson
« on: December 23, 2015, 05:11:37 PM »
Hi guys!

Here is a lesson I made about pets. The skateboarding animals video on slide 2 is a good icebreaker, and talking about cats and dogs in western culture is a great excuse to watch LOL cats videos with your students!

The worksheet is quite straightforward. After my students finished page 1, I elicited the answers and wrote them on the board. For the conversation and writing section on page 2 I checked their answers as I walked round the classroom. High level students should find it easy and work quickly, but intermediate or low level students may take longer to finish page 2.

The unusual pets section and following game should be enjoyable for the students, and for higher level classes you can encourage class discussions by asking questions about each unusual pet, such as "Would you want this as a pet? Why/why not? What could be some problems and what could be some good things about it?"

If you only have a few minutes after the unusual pets team game, showing the slides about western attitudes to pets doesn't take long. The word snake game takes about 10-15 minutes. I awarded 3 points for an animal which started with the last letter of the previous word, 2 points for an animal that started with any letter from the previous word, and 1 point for any animal.

Feel free to edit and to share links to good Lol animal videos!

Happy teaching :-)
